The best 2 Italians in London are Alistair Little on Frith St and Alba on Whitcross St.

Better than Orso or Al Duca ??
Food: Anything really. price: Cheaper then Rules. The outdoor seating is the main thing.

I've heard good things about Fish in Borough Market.

The Restaurant at the Tate Modern has nice views, but no outside, and the food is food.
    failing that...gaucho richmond!

Yes, I like it :T (the one at Canary Wharf also has outside dining)

Of course the old Pont de la Tour gaffe as well. Spent many a long lunch on that terrace

I planted 15 tomatoes, all of which are doing nicely, 8 cherry tomatoes and 7 chillies. I really hope the chillies work out as I'd love to make my own chilli oil for pizzas etc.

Making your own chilli oil isn't recommended due to botulism etc. You can make other things like chili sauce etc but it's dangerous to make your own chilli oil unless you bring the vat of oil to boil.

Oh wow - that's so interesting. I just read up on Wikipedia about botulism. I've made chilli oil before from dried chillies and have never heard of this

It seems as if adding citric acid/lemon juice/vinegar and refrigerating can keep botulism at bay. That may be safer than me boiling a vat of oil! :o

Today I rather nervously mentioned to my neighbour about my plans for solar PV panels. He and his wife are lovely people - friendly, welcoming, helpful - and he works from home and keeps a bit of an eye on my place, which is great. I feel I've really fallen on my feet here to have such good neighbours (on both sides, actually, as well as across the street). However, it's fair to say that keeping up with technological advances isn't really his thing - he's the sort of person who complains that too many companies these days have phone systems that suggest you try their website, and what about people like him who don't have internet? He also doesn't like it when people do things that mess up the aesthetics of our little crescent, like the couple along from me who keep a motor home on their drive. So I wasn't sure how he'd feel if I made my roof look different from everyone else's.

It went much better than I expected. It turns out he's environmentally minded, and therefore very pro microgeneration. He started telling me there should be a lot more of it, and why aren't all new builds built with solar PV etc as standard? So he wants to know all about how I get on with it, and I expect if it goes well he'll probably get some too. His roof and mine are identical in size and orientation, so I'll be able to give him all the quotes I get and they'll be directly applicable.

Now I just have to hope the other neighbours will be equally positive.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Just dined out with a visiting relative and I was confused by something she said. House cost about £7k when they bought it brand new. Valued at the peak at £1million.... but now it's dropped in value.... and so she says they can't sell as they can't afford to buy a (smaller/retirement) house they'd like. And I suddenly realised... OMG ... my super wealthy relative has been relying on MEW to keep up with the Joneses!!! Totally shocked.

Now need to plan a mocking visit :)

Put a positive spin on it. Tell them you are considering a turbine. Then, next week, say you've opted for PV after feedback on your first idea. ;) :rotfl:
