I'll try soup and veg oil.

I dunno.....its a cold spot too. The rest haven't even flowered.

What a waste of soup :)

Surprised your toms are ripe already  Ours are just starting to flower.
How many tomato plants have you people planted? We did 15 this year.

I'll count toms later. Not as many as two dozen I don't think.

The thing that amazes me about gaucho g. is how different the different restaurants are.....obviously food not decor. It was our default when in lawing because they like it, I like steak and dh buys me a mojito everytime they get bumptious. By the end of the evening not only do I not want to retort but I'm unable too. They used to do brilliant cheesy sort of puffs...like profiteroles without cream or sauce. I've tried at home but never get them as good.

so smiths, st johns or hawksmoor. :) Thanks. :)

the gauchos in the centre of london are all rubbish in my view (although still decent enough places to go for a group meal), but the one in richmond is actually not too bad. (i) it isn't decorated a la friesan (ii) you can sit outside, and it's a really nice spot to watch the sun go down and (iii) the food is better there than in the ones in town, and not all the waiters are twits.

but the best thing is that they have golf carts there and will give you a quick lift down to the pub afterwards!

Hampstead was better than Sloane Avenue certainly. TBH it was perfect for what we used it for, no more no less, and that was fine by me. If I could make those cheesy things though I'd be thrilled. I don't think they make them any more?

For 2 people? That is as bad as me. I've approx 19 in pots coming along nicely, with another 10 which were planted about a month later.

Way too many - I always overplant & end up giving them away.

last year, I didn't have enough room for the plants, so gave 8-9 plants away. Kept the best ones for myself. Unfortunately all my plants got blight  & i had to dispose of them. I then had to listen to other peoples tales about how great their homegrown toms were...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Its not drastic over provision: anything we can't eat that doesn't fit in one of the freezers can be ''gate sales''. :) Also local pub has a ''pay for your beer/meals with veg'' set up. Maybe I should plant more?:D

We have about 15 toms in pots, which will come down to nine when we dispose of the earlies. Still have loads of puree frozen from last year, so this is probably overkill too. Peppers are different. We'll eat all we can grow, (or freeze if there's a real glut) and we'll still be harvesting near to Christmas if its like last year.

Of course we do a lot of toms/peppers to sell on. Folks round here are great. Someone bought (self service) a dozen toms last week, and today the pots returned, washed, in their trays, and with the labels. They even returned the little sticks! :)

That's my aim. TBH, I recoken I could freeze a whole freezer full and still run out. I'm toying with getting a pressure cooker too, for jars.

:) I used to be. These days impromptu wild swimming is more likely to be done in a t shirt than my skin.

Actually, when first watching this show the idea of a wet suit appalled (I like water on my skin arund my toes, in my hair) but perhaps its not sucha dreadful idea.

Wet suits definitely have their plan if it's very cold, though!
