New holidaymakers arrived ... and I've been sitting here for the last 30 minutes wondering what the odd noises are.... do people rent holiday homes to take apart the heating system and rob the house of anything of value? They look like regular holidaymakers - couple of cars, small toddler, couple of blokes.... could be a cover.

How much would you get for a whole gas heating system/boiler, kitchen units and bunch of laminate flooring? Is it worthwhile?

TBH I don't think its the one that got away, its too small to start with.

You were right, silvercar, in what you said about "house 4", which I wasn't allowed to extend and had to pull out of buying. I walked past it the other day while bringing DD back from the park the long way, and realised that my "one that got away" feelings about it have worn off. So I remembered that you'd said this. :)

Tomorrow would have been late-nearly-ex's birthday. His parents came down this weekend to visit where his ashes are buried, and took us out for a pub lunch. The three of us grown-ups had a main course and a pudding each, in an unremarkable way. My kids had a main meal each from the children's menu, and then another main course each (exact repeat of what they had the first time) and then both had ice cream. Next time we'll just get them to pick from the adult menu.

In other news, the first PV quote person has been. I have a lot to think about.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Have found a book I fancy as my next read. Wondered if I can get the view of the scientists hereabouts on it first (it should be right up missk's street):

I've just finished reading it. It's not particularly scientific, it's a human story with a bit of anger, race relations and stuff thrown in. Would I recommend it for someone? I'm not sure. Science and how things work change over time, it's important to reflect but you cannot change the past.

That'll be Nationwide. Just ring them and ask for one.

I have two, presumably because I have two accounts, and they didn't realise that I'm the same person as me. :)
    Co-Op.
They're sending me one; the bloke offered when I rang the transfer through.
I have them for my business acc. too. Not nationwide

When I was shuffling my life insurance money round multiple accounts before buying a house with it, I had loads of these things: at least RBS, NatWest, Tesco & Ulster, and there may have been others that I've forgotten.

Weird twitter. Apparently Ryan Giggs is suing Imogen for having an affair. And there I am, thinking "I don't give a crap".
I've no idea who Imogen is.
    I don't give a cr4p either.

Can you sue somebody for having an affair? How does that work then .... never heard of it before.

That'd keep lawyers in business forever - job creation'd go through the roof!!

    No idea.

I was wondering if a thread about ebooks might be of interest to the board? But to be honest, it's a little bit too much like economics. Probably bore people.

It's an interesting topic to me personally. The fiction print industry is worth around $60 billions worldwide. And, at the moment, it vaguely looks like its going bottom up. (America's third biggest bookseller went tits*up.com, and now its biggest bookseller is being bought out for a fraction). At the same time, eBook have gone from next to nothing to 5% of the American market in a year.

It's a big story. I think books are dying.

But possibly no one is interested?
