That's poky, and the land is pretty alpine too. :(

I thought gold mining had finished in your area? Still, when Rick Stein is you fish & chippy, the world's your lobster, I suppose. ;)

sound like my windows. The ones I put paint stripper on this morning just crumbled. They are in ''phase 2'' so for the time being will get wood filler (or car filler, which I've been told in the past is better...any opinions anyone?) and be painted for the time being. Next week it will be time to start on the upstairs ones, then to start on the more difficult front ones.

I used Ronseal Wood Hardener and someone's plastic wood to do the sills on the conservatory of the bungalow we inherited. Made a good enough job, but a devil to match the real mahogany.

After many layers of self-mixed stain, I did it, and you literally couldn't see the join. :)

    I expect it lasted about 18 months......:rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
For the record I can confirm councils don't do places up to sell. IME where work has been done it falls short of the building reg requirements (wiring details, chimney work etc).

Have alost run out of paint. shop can't get it til wednesday. Trying to decide whether to do a coat or two on two windows or the with touch ups almost equalling a fourth the first window took. will start with one and see how we go. :)

Well those are pretty solid reasons. Maybe when Brit and Macaques' predicted crash comes you'll have your pick of houses currently in that range. Realistically Pastures, if you looked at map, where would your first choice of places be to live? And second choice? Third, etc?

If I knew that ..... if only I knew that.

That's the trouble isn't it... knowing where's best to be when you look at a map and haven't ever been to any of those places :)

I don't know where my first choice would be, never mind the rest.

All I know is "Down this way, but not this far ... and near the seaside, near a railway line, with affordable (to me) houses, preferably with a sea view ... and the local 2-3 beaches need to be nice. And there needs to be the availability of jobs close by". Oh - and "not a chav area, or area where Stella is the predominant blood group".

If I listed anywhere, there'd be people popping up to say "ooh that's rough; big drugs problem there".

Very expensive for what it is. You'd get it for a quarter of that on Ebay!

You need deep sheets or you will rip a lot of corner stitching and/or your OHs nails.

Surely, the quality of mattress toppers must vary?

I don't know where to buy extra deep super king-size sheets from -must be fitted please.

Or, you can make/buy corner clips like these: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/213%2BYoqje4L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Just quickly googled them and there's a variety on ebay for £2-5, search for terms like: sheet, grips, clips, grippers. Some seem to be like old fashioned suspenders, some are other designs. Look at how they grip/clip.

Random find, with LIR/Dave in mind: http://www.tlio.org.uk/chapter7/planningadvice

While you might already know your stuff and your local bods, they offer a bit of free advice if you ever need it.

For me, the site was a bit obscure as to what their target audience is .... could be "anybody with a bit of land that they're wondering about", or it might be about building sustainable places of abode. Maybe both.
