My parents' house is a standard 3-bed semi with a bay window at the front ... so posher than those without a bay window, but that's as posh as it gets
It's late 20s/early 30s., non estate.

Poor you. Hope its a nice supper. DH has been suffering desk-meal ennui in recent weeks. we went through a phase where I picked for him...laziness, all he has to do is read a menu, tick and press send.0 -

it was a rubbish tuna nicoise salad. i actually have to leave the building to get my dinner, no late night desk delivery service here. if i'm going to keep doing this i really need to leave and join a bank, or freshfields or something. at least then the little people will bring me food.0 -

LOL, dh prefers leaving to get supper...then he gets a walk and some fresh air. But its just the choice when eating at a desk can be mundane/repetitive unless bringing it in from home...where it sits in a fridge and festers all day. The delivery service is a HUGE boon for sure. Mostly in winter, when hot food is so much more satisfying.0 -
I'm bored of working 8-6 everyday0

8-6 sucks. By the time you get home you've been out 12 hours, you're frazzled, hungry, knackered. You open the door, mail to deal with, maybe somebody mithering you on the answerphone and you're supposed to call them back. Didn't stop on the way home as you were so tired, open up the fridge and there's a piece of green cheese in there, which will at least match the green bread in the breadbin. And all you have to look forward to is cooking yourself something, washing up, eating your meal, then slumping in front of the telly for an hour before it's time to go to sleep again as it's work in the morning.
And people wonder why I've "dropped out"0 -

DH has had a really good run of no weekend work recently. He worked the days lots of people took off between bank holidays, then we had our travel...and he got the odd email but not a single call. It was amazing, brilliant. Becuase of our living arrangments he doesn't mind working late into the night weekdays if it leaves our weekends (and preferably friday evenings!) clear. OTOH he pointed out, its better to be in constant demand for job security.
He was at a meeting today where his old boss from Italy was there and his boss was telling everyone how great I am and demanding to know why I wasn't there (it was a business thing...nutter). He said I am ''Mito'' which DH says means ''A legend'' and that I'm funny and glamorous and an asset.I do fall over a lot, which is quite funny. Hard to feel glamorous at the size of a house and sharing with a cat a paint splattered sloppy joe more whole than fabric and very disreputable tracksuit trousers and unwashed hair with six month roots having hobbled the week around with a floral adjustable height walking stick. That made me laugh so much I got the hiccups.:rotfl:Tomorrow if its warmer, I might wear a sundress. while I do the weeding on my hands and knees:D
Anyway, nice to know my husband's ex boss likes me.A nice end to the day.:)

Well we actually use it as our main oven cos it is big and cooks very well with a fan and turntable and it can do miraculous things like roast a chicken better than a normal oven in 40 minutes if you ask it to nicely. Plus it is up on the worktop away from DS (27 months) who likes to interfere with everything he can reach which rules out using the normal oven.
I think we have another micro-combi oven somewhere just a matter of tracking down where it is stored and I am sure I will find the time to try and fix the super-doopa one as they don't make them any more so I can't get a new one.lostinrates wrote: »Do you need to replace the microwave urgently? we don't have one at all, (the only time I regret it is when the dog food is taking 24 hours to defrost in winter(when I have to take three portions out of the freezer at a tie, not one or two) and when we fancy popcorn. Making popcorn on the hob IS more fun and kind of nicer feeling, and the dogs' food gets soaked in warm water. Oh, and rice the microwave makes nice rice.
if you need one urgently can I suggest a red cross furniture shop? Ours in local town has huge numbers of them in various sizes and the grilly thingy ones too. and tvs.
Careful what you wish for - I now work 9-5.30 2 days a week and only 5 minutes from home but the reduction in income is a bit of a shock. Having said that things are not quite so straight-forward this week with various surveyor etc visits with the building work starting next week plus trying to fit in 25 hours of census work (did 6-9 this evening and completed 10 questionnaires - and got the email address of a very attractive veterinary student) and things are being quite busy at my proper work - I am missing the normal free time now and wonder how I will fit everything in once I am back to working 5 days a week...I'm bored of working 8-6 everydayI think....0 -
8-6 would be bliss for me at the moment. 8.30-10.30 at the moment. 2 x 12 hour days last weekend as well. Will be the same until at least the end of the month. I have spent 2 waking hours at home so far this week.
