One of the worst things about working full-time and all the time that commuting takes, if you live alone, is that everything's down to you. Nobody else has ever cooked, or put the kettle on, or thought of you. Nobody's popped your 1-2 items in the wash with theirs, nobody's collected stuff, or dealt with stuff. And there are many things that can only be done on a Saturday morning. e.g. hairdressers closing at 12, Post Office closing at 12, garage closing at 12.... so if you manage to plan a trip to any of those, one of the others randomly occurring can cause mayhem. Like when your car's dying and you need the little man to give it the once over on Saturday morning, or the postman's dropped a card through the door saying there's a random thing to collect.
And deliveries/repairmen... there's only one of you to try to book a day off work to deal with it, which can mean wasting valuable annual leave on trivia. Not that you're going on holiday because of the cost of single supplements and it's not much fun on your own0 -

You seem very chatty over the internet and very popular here. Are you sure you couldn't manage a holiday where you meet people? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Need to get a passport though, got a few 'local' trips to make this/next year, but need a passport for that. I'll be staying with family there... never had the money/time/b4lls to go before.0 -

Where are you going?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

PN, how exciting...see how you feel about this trip then maybe you'll get the travel bug. Its not uncommon for people to travel alone.
Because of the course issue locally, maybe it would be worth seeing if there are any courses that interest you as a holiday? I there are then its likely you wouldn't be the only person going alone, which might make you feel more comfortable.

Even if you live with others, no-one has ever cooked, or put the kettle on or put the washing on, or done any shopping, or collected stuff or dealt with stuff. And the pile of stuff is 3 times as large, the pile of dishes 3 times as large the amount of groceries consumed at least 3 times as large, the washing heap 3 times as big, the requirements for neatly ironed shirts 12 times as big......I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I hate level crossings. I swear they just operate randomly. 45 minutes on the wrong side of it watching train after train go past. Seems to have created a 17 mile traffic jam.0

SO true! :rotfl:
At least if you're alone you know roughly what to expect. We've got the survey tomorrow and husband is coming with the surveyor so it needs to be good again. Before I got up this morning I was mentally making a list. I went to sleep quite early last night. The mess the kids made in their rooms between bedtime and actual sleep last night has made my list considerably longer!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Careful what you wish for - I now work 9-5.30 2 days a week and only 5 minutes from home but the reduction in income is a bit of a shock.
Similar situation here, love the freedom in terms of time but hate the lack of income! I don't know that I want to go back to a "normal" commuting job though, especially after you lot talked me out of it.
(did 6-9 this evening and completed 10 questionnaires - and got the email address of a very attractive veterinary student)
Mmmm..... You are quite the Leslie Phillips of this board;). I'm now imagining you saying "ding dong" while pretending to press the bell as a gorgeous vet answers. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
