Driving: 280 miles, 5 hours. So about £60 on diesel I guess and a 10 hour round trip.
Train: £96-279 return. 7.5 hours each way, with 3 changes.
Drive first 100 miles, then get the train: £78-259 return. 4 hours each way on the train + 2 hours each way driving. 2 changes on the train.
It is always quickest to drive the first 100 miles.
Put me down as a "no".
But you're lucky in a way Pastures, you got all the beaches instead. Not a bad trade off. Like Jelly I have to drive miles to get to one and my nearest is probably Southend, which isn't a lot different to Weston Super Mare in that its on an estuary and its pier has been set on fire.... We just have to look for other - inland - things to do. Having said that if I do go to the beach, I prefer to go further, say to the North Norfolk coast where its lest touristy, or somewhere more fun, like Brighton. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Aargh. I missed out the Inspector setting up that trust for Daisy that lots of us are contributing to. And PN's venture into making jewellery. But thanks anyway, viva.

Bletchley would be possible for me, with plenty of notice.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Yep that's very important. I'm trying to decide whether to pop to my parents to read their Daily Mirror or to the library to read theirs.
Good luck with the article Inspector, I hope it helps raise awareness of both Daisy's personal plight and your own issues as well as a broader understanding of the horrible disease as a whole. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Deprived of beaches here.
Doubly deprived because I grew up less than a mile from beautiful beaches and took them for granted.
Treditional picnic out with family friends at the weekend and the younger kids (their one and ours) have decided to join us. In years gone by both sets of kids came with, then the older ones did their own thing and then it was just the adults. Now the 17 year olds think it would be acceptable to join us. So need to find somewhere suitable that is near. 6 adult size people means two cars, so really can't be far as we won't be together until we get to location.

Hatfield House, Verulamium Park and Parliament Hill all made it on to the Independent's guide to the 50 best picnic spots in Britain if that helps...

Pobby -
Hope you are well. It is always a lift to me, when I see you've dropped by - even if only briefly. We al hope you are doing well.
LydiaJ - excellent summary. I wish I was able to make information so concise.:o
Doozer - Many thanks for that. I'm going to see Patrick Stewart in The Merchant of Venice at the new RSC in late May. I went to see the Patrick Stewart/David Tennant Hamlet show & spent the day in Stratford then, so in search of somewhere else, was told of Bourton & have already planned to go there! Thanks for the info on other places though - nice views & scenery I love, so no doubt some sundays, or even over the summer I'll be trying some/all of those places.
Davesnave, cheers for the additional suggestion which I scribbled down as I went through the thread & now can't find.:o
Silvercar/LIR the online article is working for me. I bought a copy of the paper but haven't read it yet.
Viva, Bletchley is on my list again for this year. I'd be a maybe owing to the nature of my second job. I know that some of the exhibits are only open weekends, so was thinking that if I did go there, it'd likely be a sunday. & thanks for that picnic link!:TIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

You don't need to go far with weather like this. Even the local park looks infinitely more appealing in the sunshine! And it's all about the company...
I remember years ago back in London going on a big picnic, lots and lots of friends, kids, rounders, drinks etc. in a local-ish park. I'd love to do that again with our friends here but I'm not an organiser; I'm too worried that people will say no!
We're having a little bit of a gathering next Friday for DD's birthday/Royal Wedding. Even that I haven't done proper invitations for.But I have bought a bottle of Pimms. You're all invited!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
