Araldite Rapid?
Early in our (now calm!) relationship, a heated exchange led to a horrible, yet precious plate, losing a chunk from its rim. Threatened with a very expensive 'invisible' repair, I did what any other red-blooded MSEer would do and delivered a pre-emptive strike, using a teeensy weeensy bit of the magic glue.
About 28 years later, the plate is just as hideous, and to the casual observer, in one piece. You can hardly see the join.
I'm usually gung ho, but this might be beyond me. Its a biggish item its a Rougier shell lamp..I'm almost as clumsy as the dog. Maybe dh could try...0 -

They are really pretty....just had a look...do you have a clam one or a spiral up one?
Now I know how big Big Dog actually is lucky it didn't get broken behond repair. Bit if super glue and a steady hand should do it....I'd wait for DH to come home.0 -

Big dog's ancestor broke my mother's leg by wagging a tail too enthusiastically. It is like living with a rhino sometimes.

Broke a leg? Gosh...how strong are their tales?
You can't beat a bit of 'troppo'0 -
lir, depends on whether all the parts match. If they do, you may be able to fix with glue. If not I'd ask a 20th century furniture dealer; or failing that, a doll's hospital as they are also v good at repairs in plastic. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Lydia - don't forget 1800 is the insurance company's 'opening offer' in the negotiation - you then respond saying you won't accept less than top dollar and eventually settle somewhere in the middle.
Meanwhile you ask the garage how much a private repair would cost or even whether it needs fixing at all. Assuming there are no safety implications you then (having already agreed the value) ask the insurance company if you can buy the 'salvage' which they will agree to for about 15%. Then you spend a couple of hundred (if that) on repairs, pocket £2125 (2500-15%) from the insurance co and still have the car you know.
I did something very similar as a kid and the insurance company took the scrap value from the value of the car when they sent me the cheque..0 -
I've no idea LIR. Glue is good if you're prepared to put up with the fact you'll always be able to see the join, otherwise you need to find a specialist repairer - such as would be suggested on Antiques Roadshow; perhaps you can google for some antiques forums/enthusiasts. The suggestion of a dolls hospital (never heard of those!) seems a great idea too.0

I think this was more an attempt to buy loyalty in their separation.I also got a mug from an old neighbour, and some antique stable fittings, a blanket box and another neighbour gave us agarden statue. All in all pretty impressive.

I don't have any personal space here and I've been beach foraging, so that stuff needs washing. Can't wash it and lay it out to dry here (not allowed/no space/causes too many arguments), so I'd bought a collander and put it in bleach/water in the collander, in a bowl, by the back door, with a lid on it and fat stone to hold the lid down. Just been out and the bl00dy seagulls have managed to dislodge the stone and rob my stuff! Some they've dropped across the garden, which I've picked up, but I've no idea what they got away with
If it were "my place" I'd have washed this in the sink and laid it out on a towel on the draining board and been able to leave it to dry.0
