I guess it would need to be cheap to insure and easy to maintain as I don't have a no claims discount and would be rubbish with actual maintenance (but not driving it very much).

Sorry; lifted this from a thread you started which I've now read, in the Motoring forum. I hope you've checked out what sort of insurance premium you'll be looking at. I was concerned about rust and other issues with the Citroen Ax, and also would recommend not panic buying - not that you are. There are a few good YouTube videos with tips on "What To Check When Buying A Used Car" but none of them cover everything.

One thing I don't like about my car is having to remove the front bumper, which requires removing about 14 torx bolts, just to get access to change a headlight bulb. The nearside front lights at least. Quite a few modern cars around now which are troublesome for bulb changes.

I would very happily give up car ownership in the future... with a carefully planned purchase of a home in a location where it's easier to do without a car. It's not so much of a concern at the moment for I share all my cars major running costs with someone else which makes a huge difference to costs, although requires compromises.

This might not be true, but I once read that in Cuba, if you use the hitch symbol to a passing car with only the drive, there is a law where driver has to stop and give you a lift. Well it is a bit more complicated than that, as I've just read but with other webpages saying hitchhiking is a way of life there. It wouldn't work over here, couldn't be made law, nor be that sensible for driver or hitcher in many circumstances.

I did say that but 8 miles of it is on an A road.

I would also take the train but it's 40 minutes for a 10 mile journey as i would have to change.

Not big fan of being a 2 car household too :)

Does that mean you already have one car in your household? I'm just wondering if you've considered all options. Not saying you haven't. 10 mile commute. Is there anything like this running in your area? I know very little about them but would do more research if in a situation like your own.

Halfords? ("We Fit") £1.99 for a bulb change if I remember correctly.

    Just a thought. :)

Aspergers and difficulties with verbal understanding
I think this is one way I've 'suffered' in life, especially in the workplace. I've kind of gathered over the years that if I am given a bunch of verbal instructions, then I can't really remember much after the first one. So I figured that all verbal instructions must be written down.

The trouble is, that nobody will wait for that. They want to give you some verbal instructions, what to do lists, etc, and expect you to remember it. Well, I can't.

I also have never been able to carry out a conversation on a mobile phone. Firstly there's understanding what they're saying, then it's difficult knowing when they've finished speaking. I do hate them.

The trouble is that I've been made to feel bad/useless about this sort of thing every day/week/month for years as I didn't know that I was struggling/why, I just wasn't able to remember things that people had said to me. I had no reason, no name for it. So it's caused many bad moments and feelings of anxiety over the years.

He has threatened to just walk out of school when the years 10 and 11 leave (they don't have to stay for dinner) and is being a complete stick in the mud about it all...probably more so because of the first issue, an unsettled middle son does not make for an open and pliable boy.
I'd never dare do that. I'd just go along and be distressed and isolated and not enjoy it and want to run, run, run as far away as possible and be alone when it was all over.

No, you need one of the very large size cones (modified if necessary so the hen's head can drop easily through the small end.) The body of the cone stops it flapping....

    :o I don't need to elaborate further, do I?

Mmmm - I find you more attractive every day ;)

Halfors do know about the cars that are a pig to do and charge accordingly - the stilo I suggested you either need very little double jointed arms to change the passenger side headlight bulb from the bonnet or to take off the wheel arch inner cover and reach up from below working 'blind'

Sue I agree with Davesnave (and what you seem to be thinking), keep things as calm as possible now as any incident now might adversely impact on the start of next term.
    I think....

I find that hard too PN. I jot down what people are saying as they tell me,writing them down in itself often throws up where clarification is needed. DH also prefers written instruction....but that's usually so partners can't pass the buck when they are wrong...:D

Really? Sadly its very, very true. I TRY hard to be nice and treat people the way I want to be treated and just generally to be ''good'' but don't believe its a natural tendency for me!

The other one where I'm "caught out" by verbal instructions where it's all gone pear-shaped is where you're working on many things and some boss comes up to you and just asks "have you done the report?" Well, my brain has to break off from what I'm doing, then digest their words ... by then they're agitated and assume I've not done it, so then they speak again - annoyed that I've not done something important.... and I enquire "which report?" which they take to mean "I have completely forgotten to do that", so their next words are annoyed/agitated and make me feel like !!!!!!.... and when I eventually manage to get them to slow down and I work out which report, I tell them that it's done, it was done, to deadline, as requested, spot on - and dealt with exactly how it should have been. But they're not listening by then and I am left to feel distressed and down and bad all day. A few similar misunderstandings and the job's usually 'spoilt' for me and there's a complete relationship breakdown in the workplace.

I just had years of this and never knew why. Now I do, but, to be honest, I am really too scared to go back into the workplace these days.

I've got to admit, I couldn't do the headlight bulb change on a relative's car in October. Didn't spend much time trying but the forums which specialise in that particular car also said it was a bumper off job and I didn't want to begin that job on a car I don't know well.

Took it to Halfords, and the young man said I was lucky because mostly they are bumper off jobs for this car, but can just get away with it for access on that model year and particular version. So I paid Halfords to do it (£5.99). He actually changed both sides because I bought super-bright bulbs on a special offer - and it's recommended to have same type of such bulb fitted both sides. :)

I now have a fairly wierd image of you & foundinrates comparing notes on the minutes of last nights dinner & discussions, before going about on your daily duties!:D

Heaven forbid, an arguement in your house would I assume involve a lot of references to these documents, possibly even with them being waved about!
