Not famed for reliability or handling high miles and very poor crash ratings, don't really think it is worth more than 200 and you may end up spending more time waiting for the AA than driving, I think you could do much better. Potentially you could go for something over 25 years old and look for classic car insurance and cheap tax if you are going that old?
What about having a go at this one for up to 1k?Opinions on a citroen ax? 100k, n reg (late 95/early 96), with year's mot. £495.
Worth a punt if the car looks ok?I think....0 -
Ah, so your postcode is AB11 6DA? Must be nice living in the centre of town.
I first twigged that carolt lived nearby because she had her postcode in something she linked to.

Citroen AX (1987 - 1997 ) At early 96, it would be a towards the end of the line build.
Not sure. Know a lady who has an old one, and she loves hers, with it seemingly very reliable for her. Doesn't have any computer whizz stuff to break in it. Parts availability?
One review here, listing the good and the bad - things to consider.

There is at least one Citroen Ax forum / owners club... but the best info (technical / servicing / repairs) seems to be only available to paid subscribers. However they do have viewable a buying guide for people considering the Citroen AX. We used to have a massive Citroen.. really long type, and as a child, when left alone in the car, I was playing with the suspension to raise and lower the car.... broke the suspension, with lots of hydraullic fluid leaking out, maybe the seals broken.. and a pricey repair. Got told off and had to do a lot of walking whilst it was repaired.0 -
Talking about cars, looking through yesterday for a new (to him) car for my brother and me and mum spotted a possible new car for me. Same make and model as I have now except in white (I am not sure about white cars, no idea why), 4 years younger but in a hugely better condition bodywork and interior than mine was when I got it, a years ticket and 6 months tax...all for £599.
Well mum thought it a contender rather than me, I haven't been looking for a new car.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Sue, if you can it might be a good idea, if you know the car suits your needs.
In my ideal world I'd have a nearby friend who loved cars and wanted to help for a second hand one. Haven't had any of those for a whileIts much easier to find those friends when young, single and thin
People are crawling around the house to day, measuring and prodding and sizing up. Feral cat has had to go in a crate and the dogs don't like it. The other cats are trying to help.0 -
To be frank, Misskool, if you pay £500 you are likely to be picking up a bundle of trouble. There used to be good bangers for that money, but the £2,000 trade-in deal sent loads of them to banger heaven.
If £500 was really my budget (and I couldn't stretch to say £1500) I would look for something that did not look too good - plenty of dents on it, that sort of thing - but was mechanically sound. Toyotas of that sort of age had a good reputation for reliability. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
You don't need a mountain to be in that position, but yes, it's not the first thing that most people think about if they view in June.
We used to reject houses on the grounds that they didn't control their own sunshine, particularly late afternoon & evening sun. Some agents would be slightly 'off' about this as a reason, but most were smart enough to realise that if we understood the way other buildings, trees and the landscape might conspire against a property at a different season, or time of day, we weren't naive.
I think this is a significantly important factor to take into account with a house purchase.
Some of the things I've been considering have included things as daft as the rise & setting of the sun (where it hits the house, windows, garden etc) as well as if the ground is likely to drain away from or towards the property.
In conversations with people it has seemed that most don't take things like this into account. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
As a child I lived on a house at the bottom of a steep driveway, I always look to avoid that now.
Our garden faces north-west. I thought it would be a problem, but we do get the sun all year round and in Summer the whole garden is in sunlight except for a tiny corner of the patio. I guess its not just direction but the length of the garden and the position of other properties that is important. It did worry me initially and had we not been buying in spring/ summer I may have been concerned.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. The house we purchased was at the top of a very steep incline...come winter and no begger could get up the hill in the snow and we had abandoned cars sitting at the bottom. Also made it fun for going to the supermarket (which was just a short walk away), you didn't walk down the incline, you slid down it on your bottom...much safer, although the getting back up with bags of shopping was not much fun.We made it! Sun rises into my bedroom window and sets over where my new bedroom window will be. Room that will be kitchen, and most lived in and warmest is currently northfacing, but are thinking about south and west facing windows....not too keen to make it too hot!
The only room which annoys me with orientation here is the room which will be the dining room(north and east aspects, not west or south...which means it would make a better breakfast room, but tough.....in the winter I'll make it snug, in the summer we'll eat in the garden!)0
