Tried to do our Census form yesterday while eating lunch and listening to the radio, so I messed up my employment section and forgot I had a student daughter, who should have been mentioned.....:o
Then, neither of us could agree on our religion, or how healthy we are. In the end, we pushed it to one side, as it was just causing grief.
Anyway, up with the lark & I've just done it on-line instead. No arguments, and no re-accessing it now its done...Easy!
Online is the easiest way to do it imo.
Under religion, I wish they had a box for agnostic.:o My friends tell me the facefook campaign this year is for as many as possible to put "heavy metal" as their religion. As we say around here, they're yampy!
fc123 not had a chance to read the pm yet, will definitely do so today! Enduring gratitude from me though, as I know it will be well worth it. Thank you.:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I think people are taking the census to seriously - most data the govt has, if results come in 'right order of magnitude' it is counted as a success. Whether people have 2.001 or 2.002 cars on average or the odd person spends a night away at a party is not going to make any difference in the grand scheme of things.
I just like doing things as ''well'' and as ''properly'' as possible. I don't like completing something improperly. It doesn't sit well with me.0 -
Just spotted your sig LIR..... Max.... have you read his blog lately? A year on and he ditched cars and went back to posh yachts.
He'll not be back to see us, the riff raff.0 -
Even today when the weather is cooler, the sun is amazing. We have horrid patterned glazing on some internal doors and as I sit here the sun is dripping down those ghastly glass leaves, making them look almost beautiful in a startling drippy luminous orange gold and the purpley blue lights of the evening. Glorious. If only you could package these beautiful things and keep them for down days eh?0

Oh that's a happy ''ending''. Sailing into the sunset.I'm glad it worked out for him.
What life was like for me without PN and her amazing library of links! You are so ORGANISED.0 -
This is really very scary. The chain store like what you are doing right now, but effectively they require you to do it differently. You are saying that you need to find new suppliers, and you have to give them large orders immediately without any chance to check how good they are. You'll be stretched to run all the QC on these large orders with your existing staff.
As for setting up your own production unit overnight, what a nightmare. How do you know whether the staff you take on are any good?
What a choice! If you don't take the order, you'll end up kicking yourselves for the rest of your lives, but you run the risk of a catastrophe if you go ahead. It's a nice choice to have, but a difficult decision.
To set up a small production units for short runs, trials and quick repeats would be set up over the longer term...couldn't do it overnight. It's not that expensive in the general scheme of things...about 12-15k machinery, allow 30k for 3 months wage bill, enough cheap space?, we've got that already. Plenty of skilled staff in our area and we already know a good supervisor who would jump at the role if it was offerred.
The reason we couldn't do the repeat was; 1 our factories are booked up for the next 4 weeks already and I can't bump anthing out of line and 2; we import bulk fabric by 2 - 3 thousand metres at a time and plan it to last however long whilst the next batch is being knitted and sent in....kind of like a rolling stock programme rather than buy 10,000m in one hit, use it up then buy the rest.
Keeps the ££££ flowing better and my price per metre is landed so no cheaper.
More businesses can go bust due to over trading and doing huge orders (then run out of cash before finished) than through lack of orders .....or so I've heard.vivatifosi wrote: »I'd write to the head of the government department responsible for the funding, which is probably the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) but may not be. If you don't want to do that or are not sure, you could always write to your MP, or as a last port of call, the Taxpayers Alliance. Personally I don't like the idea of the latter as the government may already be dealing with the scam and going to the TA or the press may undo undercover work they are already doing. Fraud tends to leave a papertrail so they may be aware already, but further evidence is always good.
Thanks for that.....I am on it and am going to find out the source (nothing on the paperwork at all)....actually.... makes me absolutely furious and the rep is still out and about harvesting grant 5k's like there is no tomorrow. He charges himself out at £750 per day and knows jack s**** about making anything at all........maybe a cup of tea if his life depended on it.
Even had his mate from a project over the river call trying to recruit me into his scheme (all manufacturing) and I went onto their site whilst he was on the 'phone and saw we are wrong postcode......he was like 'oh we can get around that'.0 -

That's what I understand, too. In your case, it's not just doing huge orders which you won't get paid for for months. It's also the risk in having to find new factories to put the stuff together for you. So, the worst possible outcome is that you deliver the huge order, just managing to do that within your available finance, and then the store chain rejects the goods for some reason - most likely because you've had to use a new factory that turns out not to be so hot.
It's difficult, because there are risks in not providing what they want - they show your designs to an existing supplier, etc.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
