I think people are taking the census to seriously - most data the govt has, if results come in 'right order of magnitude' it is counted as a success. Whether people have 2.001 or 2.002 cars on average or the odd person spends a night away at a party is not going to make any difference in the grand scheme of things.I think....0

Havent looked at our census form yet; the weather outside is still good, and that's what governs our actions. I expect we'll dash it off after dinner tonight.
DD2, despite being present here last night, refuses to be included because she's going back to Poole to help her overseas flat mate fill the one in that they've received there.0 -

I can't decide and the quick help is no help !
I'll vote for one. That's what you normally have - one between the two of you.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Just joined Twitter. What was your first tweat?
I refer the honourable gentleman to Mick McCarthys response to twitter:They shouldn't call it twitter, they should call it tw4tter. Too many tweets make you a tw4t.It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Hello and welcome Queen of the Jungle. :hello:
The "nice people thread" is a place where those who like to hang out on the house prices board are allowed to get off topic. We're a friendly bunch, so do join in.
Could you people who have signed up as census staff give me some advice please? I've just submitted mine online. I let the kids come and click their own answers so they could feel included (and then banished them from the room while I checked everything over).
Typically, now that I've clicked "submit" and it's too late to change anything, I've decided that I think I may have got something wrong. After I'd finished, I had a look at the Scottish census site to see if it was much different, and realised that while the Scottish site says to say you own your house "with a mortgage or loan" if there is a mortgage or loan secured on the house but the English site says to say you have a mortgage or loan if you have any kind of of mortgage or loan that must be repaid.
I'm in England. I have a loan from my family that I am intending to repay, although nothing terrible would happen if I wasn't able to - the outstanding amount would just be factored into the calculations of sharing out my parents' estate between us four siblings when they eventually die. It's an informal arrangement and nothing's secured on the house. I have no other loans.
So, lemonjelly and Nikkster:
a) What should I have put?
b) If I've got it wrong, does it matter?
c) If so, what should I do about it?
Thanks.
I don't think it will matter at all LydiaJ. Although you have a loan from family, it is not secured on the property.
In order then:
a) I reckon you've put the right answer already
b) Probably not, it's a minor detail anyway
c) Chill & put yer feet up!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

It is how many cars you had access to on 27/3/11.
Therefore the written off one. Do you still have it, or have the insurers taken it? If you still have it, it counts.
The one you sometimes have access to, if you did on the 27th, it counts. If you didn't, it dow!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Don't worry...and yes we did decide to do it and I researched those involved (named on the site link), samples went and we'll wait and see.
I am guessing you got back into the UK with no probs too?
Anyway...anyone fancy some factory tales?
Don't want to just launch into an essay on 'FC's hunt for more good factories' and send everyone on the thread to zzzzzz.
Also, I accidentaly uncovered a grant scam recently (and am not too worried about posting a few details on here) but I am not sure how to whistleblow it...I mean who do you call?
Your tales are never dull nor boring. Indeed, I have found much interest & insight into a world I am not usually part of, that I really miss the tales you have posted!:)
I also love your posting style...very accessable & friendly. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Apologies for simply throwing in a series of my own posts. I know there are peeps on here who have been very interested in the Japan earthquake, tsunami & also the nulclear reactor. Did anyone watch the Horizon special on bbc2 last night? Very informative. For examply, Japan has 17 nuclear power stations, as they have massive demand for electricity, & next to no natural resources. I can't remember exactly, but there was fascinating stuff about how many subsequent earthquakes have hit, & how many since the big one.
Apparently, the fukishama plant was built with safety precautions, including a earthquake up to 7 point something, and also had tsunami defences, but the wall was 1.5 metres too small.
anyways, I'm blabbering. Watch it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0101nq2It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

In case FC123 pops by, item on the news of interest today. Some North Devon firm went to China to look at moving their sewing shop over there and decided to leave it where it is.
They do a lot of lightweight wetsuits - and also quite a bit for the film industry (e.g. Pirates of Penzance); they take calls from film makers with a bunch of measurements and quickly knock up what they need. They source their materials from the UK. I've no idea who they are though.... I'll see if I can identify them, maybe they're on your list already.
They seemed to be switched on, able to move/adapt fast, have a good work ethic, able to manage a multitude of materials. It's better to know of them and dismiss them, than to never know they existed, I figure.
One thing they've learnt in China is about a cutting machine, which can cut in 2 months what it takes them to cut manually in a year.
Edit: Here they are http://www.itv.com/westcountry-west/company-staying-put75848/

Sounds like wetsuits/waterproof materials are their thing by the name though.
They've developed their own lightweight fabrics, ideal for films etc where stuff needs to look heavy but not drown actors if they're filmed in water
