On the washing machine front, check you have a hot water tap.... or whatever they call it... so you can plumb in the hot water from your boiler. When we bought one earlier in the year, we didn't think to check. And it takes ages to heat up the water, so the machine is slower even though it has a fast spin.
I'd prefer it the other way. If your machine heats the water it needs, when it needs it, there's no waste. No other system needs to be working either, so you don't have to heat your water first, or make sure your tank's hot, or turn the immersion on. Just flick the washing machine switch and it's job done.

Its the stand part that looks hard, isn't it? I have wire which I presume I can spray paint......fire hazard :D and can build up a bigger bird collection over time. Do you think you can work out the stand?
I didn't even notice/see a stand. Surely a stand is just a bit of bent metal with legs on.... could probably use a standard bird cage one :) Or re-finish a second hand stand from a charity shop/car boot sale.

Er... if you have the machine plugged in to the hot tap, they generally still have a heating element. So you can heat on demand, but you can also use the main boiler, which really helps for anyone who has a large family. It means if you are doing more than one load, the water is heating up in your mail boiler at the same time as the machine is working. It doesn't matter much for an individual, but it makes a large difference for a family.

Ah. My mum didn't get a washing machine until after I'd left home. And I was about 35 before I got my first one. I've never been a family, nor been involved in any family washing rituals.
    :)

Until 35 I washed everything by hand and the big stuff I put in the bath and walked on.

My tumble dryer door is held closed with an old vaccum cleaner and a paint mate....so far using this method has put off having a new tumble dryer for over 7 years!

The tumble dryer itself is nearly 15 years old.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Pobby - there is a really jaundiced view of the world on parts of the forum, maybe best avoided if you are not feeling 100%. It can be quite depressing sometimes.

My parents have the record, they replaced their washing machine after twenty years, and the tumble drier that was bought at the same time is still going.

They has an ariston fridge that finally died at thirty years old.

Pasturesnew, I have never washed by hand, but I spent five years doing it ala laundrette... don't really like them.
