Hi everyone, hope you're all well. I haven't disappeared from the face of the earth, just been really busy with one thing and another. My mum has ongoing health problems, which means I am now very involved with her care and I'm not overflowing with free time or energy.
But it's lovely to pop in and keep in touch.
Its good to hear from you.
Tom term..this is the plant from google image....chinese lantern to me is a cape gooseberry/physalis so not sure if that's a language/regional name or what but here's what I'm talking about

That's what I'm talking about too.:)
....But I also have this to go with it. It's an Alyogyne huegelii.
Treliac, I'm the same; just pop in and out when I can. Nice to hear you're OK though.0 -
We had a big garden and my mum loved gardening, so we always had lots of flowers in the garden - and, being in the countryside, there were flowers everywhere; in people's gardens, in the hedgerows, everywhere. But I don't know what any are called.
I always loved the "bunny flower/plant"
No idea what it is .... *googles* .... which turn out to be Antirrhinum http://www.shootgardening.co.uk/plant/antirrhinum-majus0 -
Ah, interesting, thanks Lir / dave. I googled it before, and got a completely different flower, that looked similar to the cape gooseberry but not quite. It didn't seem to be right, so I has to ask. I haven't got one of those, but I remember a couple of years ago I was strongly thinking about buying one as a birthday present for my dad, but the label claimed it was tender, and there wasn't enough room in his house.
pasturesnew: I really love snapdragons (or bunny flower plant - what a cute name) and also dahlia's, aquilegias and wall flowers, I guess I am just an unfashionable gardener, but they are really beautiful plants.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I like unfashionable plants too tomterm. My favourite plants are foxgloves which I used to grow at my old house. Unfortunately my garden is too sunny now so they won't grow. I also like common as muck plants like pansies and petunias. I also really like Magnolias and Camellias though. I don't like plants that grow in shades of bright orange, red or yellow, prefer muted palette. The bright colours remind me of council-painted front doors from the 1970s.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I like plants that look pretty although I could never give you a name.......unfortunately, some weeds look pretty and some flowers look ugly, so my brother never trusts me to do the weeding as I leave the pretty looking ones and remove the ugly looking beggers, regardless of them being weeds or flowers!
Yesterday morning was spent doing the first grass cut of the year, sprucing up the garden furniture and generally having a tidy up, it started off not bad temperature wise but then it just dropped and finally started to rain and I spent the rest of yesterday trying to warm up.
I'm still trying to work out how my siblings have green fingers and understand plants and I have no clue....and no real interest with the preference for having my nose stuck in a book than being out in the garden. We made it! @viva,
I hear not only that library cuts are being made but that school coaches are being cut from easter - so much for consultation.
*Wonders how carolt is doing.* When she moved in the Summer she said she was relying on the school coach to take little ones to school and I know she doesn't drive and public transport would be at least two buses.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. lir suggested leaving the weeds if they look pretty. This was on a thread ages ago so I've done it since. Of course, pretty weeds are perennial so I leave them over the winter and bingo they are there smiling at me next summer. If anyone ever asks me why I've got a garden full of weeds I'm going to say "well there's this woman on the net who says they are pretty", but so far people have just said it is a pretty garden, not which are weeds and which aren't.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Hey silvercar,
I missed your post earlier, must have cross-posted. I wonder about carolt too. It would be good to see her back.
I hadn't heard about school coaches. The actual bus services are out to tender at the moment - the ones the general public use - so it will be interesting to see whether they are scaled back. New tender due to start end of Mar I think see:
http://www.publictenders.net/tender/82535
There are parts of the town in which I live where the buses have already been scaled back to the extent that nobody can take one to the train station to get to work so that will be very bad news if they are cut further. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Ah, but you didn't keep pulling up the ultra rare and expensive plants your brother had planted....:rotfl:
He has banned me from weeding now which suits me just fine...I hated weeding, in fact, I dislike anything gardening related, it bores the pants off me when my brother starts talking about the various varieties, where they need to be planted, when they need to be planted etc.
I just want a pretty looking garden...weeds or not weeds. We made it!
