re kids' books, our conversation of a couple of days ago, I was in t'supermarket and browsing the bookshelves and huffing with disappointment when I decided to look at the kids ones. OMG at the number of Twilight spinoffs....nothing for ''big kids'' was not supernatural/sci fi in some way.

There are more teen offerings lir, unfortunately these are the most popular which is why they are at the supermarkets. The one good thing that's happened since Twilight is that teens actually come in to borrow books now, which they never did before (except the more studious ones). Though it is true that many of the books are about vampires.

Popular teen authors in the library include Jacqueline Wilson, Anthony Horowitz and Phillip Pullman (all of whom write for different age groups), plus the likes of Louise Rennison, who wrote "Angus Thongs and Snogging" and the "Diary of a Chav" series by Grace Dent. JK Rowling could make an even bigger fortune if she followed her Harry audience through into the teens with a new series.

missk, just a quick thought. You aren't posting from "holiday" are you? If you are, maybe you should allow yourself a few days off;)

I used to think anything that got kids reading was good...but I don't know if I still do. I haven't decided yet. :)

I have to admit finding twilight books readable, if undeserving of quite so much adoration. I read The Host too, a while ago.

The other thing that annoyed me about Matched was, despite the authoress being an English teacher SHE GOT LESS AND FEWER WRONG. :o

no, but they ...not them in a ''the man'' way but them in the people I've moved on from...!!!! search and find me. :) I did try once...on that sort of basis, and it wasn't for me.

You don't have to use your real name either.

I use it now for following all sorts of things, not just friends. I see the weekly money tips when it's still draft, get updated when the travelzoo & dealchecker newsletters are out etc and lots of places use it to post offers so I have hotels, and cute crafty companies that I follow as well that post their discount codes on fb. I got £10 off the other day on one website - just five codes and then when I posted some feedback they added another £10 to my account :D

(eta: I can see the attraction....for a ''surrendered woman'' that vampire really is the ideal man...apart from his good sense of smell....that would make one very, very paranoid IMO)

Youngest has declared he doesn't like libraries....his specialist outreach teacher suggested she would arrange for extra books that he would like to be delivered to him direct at school for him to borrow because he complained he didn't like the books in the school library.

He replied that that would be a waste of time as you would have to give them back and he prefers to keep them and build up his collection.

Mind you, he is becoming book savvy now....he generally buys second hand from a local second hand bookstore and yesterday scored a brilliant deal for himself when he saw a book he liked that had some damage. The book had already been priced with the damage taken into account but youngest decided to try to get a discount, so off he toddled to the desk with his pocket money and asked if they would do it half price because of the damage.....and they did!

I think the fact he buys so many books from them swung the deal, he is in there every week spending his pocket money and enlarging his collection of books.

I just wish he would let on just how much he reads when he is at school, they seem to think that he hardly ever reads and keep asking me to encourage him.....encourage him? If he read anymore when at home, he wouldn't have time to sleep! Alas, the school are reluctant to believe me when I tell them he does read and an awful lot at that because he has no interest whatsoever in reading at school and has point blank refused to at times.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I'd been wondering whether she was expecting an invite in the post this morning? Possibly not just to the main event but also lunch or dinner afterwards. She'd need to get a posh frock and learn how to speak through her nose. :)

Ah, I wasn't completely wrong about MissKool. Just got the date and the participants wrong.

Congrats, and I wish you both much happiness.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It all sounds great PN....and a drill sounds exciting :D...is it a mini one? I read your other posts about it and wanted to respond back then. Got any more pics of products to post up ?
No. Not made anything yet. I need space to make stuff - and every time I pick something up I realise the next piece of the jigsaw's missing and I need to buy something else.

I'm getting there slowly though. Once I have my own place (aka space) then I'll be 'allowed' to order the next stuff I need, which includes: tumbling machine/shot, torch/firing bricks, sterling silver sheet/etc, jeweller's saw/files/etc. And, of course, make a photo studio/booth and populate that with things.... and get a camera working well in macro.

So, quite a long way off really.

The idea of kids that I teach searching for me was what put me off FB for a long time. However, now that I've joined it I have my privacy settings so that I only appear in searches if the people searching are "friends of friends", and even then if they find me they only find my name, town, birthday and one picture - oh and I think it says I'm female, too. Everything else is hidden from everyone unless I've chosen to add them as a friend.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
