Well Carol if you are reading this, you are missed and it is a shame if you (or anyone else) were driven off the board by personal criticism - that just reflects badly on all of us.Well, whatever her reason was, it doesn't seem to have been to cause trouble, because she hasn't. While I have seen her about the forum a little bit, in the main she has probably been on other boards on MSE because I haven't seen her on here that often.I think....0

Who is she then?I can only identify DD sockies because of his highly individual style.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
I don't have glasses. Had an eyesight test 32 years ago and was prescribed some, chose some horrid gold frames and they reacted with my skin so I stopped wearing them and never bothered again. Bought a pair of £1 reading glasses about a year ago, which I use about twice a month max.
Today .... I went into .... the library.
They had a total of 3 books in the 'section' I am interested in; one was definitely not the right sort of book, the other two "would do" to look at the pictures, so I got those out.
Apart from that, I spent the day beachcombing, until the pink sunset cast an eerie light over the beach, then I came home and had chips.0 -

Evening all, just wanted to chuck my tuppenceworth in on the glasses issue. DH bought a new pair the other week at Asda of all places. They had designer frames for £50 per pair with lenses. I asked and I could get a pair for my astigmatism (did I spell that right? Tired tonight) for the same price. Worth checking if the same deal is still on. This is at that really big Asda in Watford that is known to many of the nice people. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

If you haven't seen it already, you have to watch the feisty female pensioner in this video:

No sound pastures so don't worry about the lack of speakers...

Blimey indeed! I don't think this feisty pensioner would be so keen to defend a jewellers, but the pie shop in Winkleigh would be another matter....
On the subject of specs, we go to Specsavers and find that, being a franchise, they vary tremendously. Bath was fine, Barnstaple is good and Exeter proved so pathetic it took DD2 about 6 weeks and five meetings to achieve the same specs she'd had first time in Bath. Luckily, she majors in retail, so going back repeatedly and insisting, politely, that she is right, is all second nature to her.
Me, I just accept what I'm given and say, "Yes, they're fine...." when I mean "Urgh! These are odd, but I suppose it's just me.":o Consequently, on my first trip out with some new specs, I had a few problems driving. A reluctant return visit to the shop revealed they'd been fitted wrongly, so it was difficult for me not to look through the reading part.0 -

The fascinating thing is that all the other passers-by are doing absolutely nothing about it until she starts having a go, and then suddenly everyone else joins in and helps catch one of them. Nobody wants to go out on a limb, but if one person will set an example, then most people will follow it.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I think the thing with this is we nee to feel more empowered. I like the idea of taking more responsibility.
I talked to the architect yesterday about a lot of the things we had discussed.Your input was all really useful.
We've also now decided what is most important to start from....so phase one, presuming structure throws no more surprising issues phase one will be structure and function of kitchen and utility and that end downstairs loo (which will be fitted with white goods and stuff we have to use ...i.e. it will not be the finished kitchen for a few years....) then study so pushing through the house from that way in order.0
