Thought I'd take the scenic route rather than the main road and went through Berkhamsted instead. In the middle of Berkhamsted High Street there is an old gentleman's outfitters store which was sold recently and was being done up. Over the weekend, the whole of the front of the building fell off and into the street.
Wowsers. Must have been some almighty ongoing problem for that lot to come tumbling! I wonder if the people renovating it knew the front was likely to come off?!
I liked the comments on the hemel today site. Strangely reminiscent of the sort of comments made on our local paper's facebook page. Nice to know we're 'normal' after all...complaints about hairdressers, beauty salons, phone and charity shops and people who love to talk about the local bus routes.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Local rumour, so must be treated with a pinch of salt, is that an RSJ came out of the frontage in the vicinity of the bay window and the rest collapsed under the weight. I honestly don't know what the score is, but the description of an RSJ just "popping out" sounded wrong and scary all at the same time. Personally I blame the estate agent. They must have really hammered that SOLD board up for it to be the only part of the wall that's still there. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I should probably start another thread on another board but as there's a couple of computer clever peeps on this thread. Would you advise me please?
I've never bothered with a website for our company as we don't sell enough of anything for people to want to look. But now I'm thinking I need to get H out of the house before I kill him and I'm considering pimping him out.
Is it possible then to set up a website inexpensively that someone may actually find if they were looking for a builder in our area? We have a logo and enough before and after photos to sink a small boat. And I can spell, which seems to help.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Slightly off topic but, Mary Portas Secret Shopper is tackling Estate Agents next week - should be interesting.0 -

Yep, basically the steps are:
1. Buy a domain name from a host with wordpress as a one click install. Click the click to install wordpress
2. Go to a free wordpress theme website (either from http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ , or there is another website pasturesnew uses, can never remember the URL to be honest, generally just google free XXX theme) and install the theme you want
3. Change the photos and text to whatever you want.
4. Make sure that you use phrases like Builder in XXX, does whatever he does. Basically, say where he is, and what he does right on the first page, use it in the title of the blog.
And, basically, then you have a website.
Link to the site from your profile here.
There is generally so little competition for these things, that is normally enough, but if not you can register on google maps https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=lbc&passive=1209600&continue=http://www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter?service%3Dlbc&followup=http://www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter?service%3Dlbc which will pretty much guarantee when someone looks for a builder in your area you will come up.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Not much. Check your broadband package. Some come with free webspace including a wordpress blog. For your purposes, almost any webhost with 1 click wordpress install is enough.
I tend to use hostgator, their cheapest plan is $8.95 a month if you only pay one month at a time, and $5.95 a month if you buy three years at a time. They are expensive, but I trust them and they are very reliable.
.co.uk domain names are cheap as chips. 123-reg is around £3 a year at the moment.Oh, and can I get a proper email address?
All web hosts these days come with a webmail email address, so you can do YOURNAME@YOURDOMAIN.co.uk some with pop3 accounts so you can do your email in windows email. I think hostgator comes with both.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I can confirm I am not lir's sockie.
I'm not saying who's sockie I am though...;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
