I'm going to butt in if that's ok?

Does anyone leave the community? If they don't like the idea. Or what happens if there's a mixed marriage? Do people marry in or marry out?

How does that work out mathematically? There are more women than men, in all age groups, so there must be some women left over.

PN EVERYONE marries. Worst comes to the worst, some nasty little country boy will be dragged in, hastily converted to catholiscm and married off to a cousin.

He will think he has it made. Set up for life, straight from the high rise to easy street.

Then he finds out his wife has about 72 male relations and easy street is anything but

    N'ah. S'ok for now.

Its a huge difference in position to get your head round. I can't imagine staying with my family if they held me back from finding a good life partner. I can't imagine a parent accepting a violent marriage for their child.

I think you are right, there is positive, but I think its that that is overlooked rather than things like tax evasion and violence being ''minor''. But that is I acept, a personal opinion.

I hope you are happy with the choices you made in life. Any daughter doing as well as yours, and a person with a big heart like yours...well...I'm not going to gush. :)

I left. My Da before me left.

    No one really leaves.

In the very first programme there was a young girl who was getting married and who was going on about the huuuuuuuge dresses and her idiot cousins. So she chose a dress with a 20ft train instead.

She still got married at 16 and she still had a huge dress but hey she was doing it differently.

No one really leaves, it is who we are. Doulton Ladies R Us.

People marry in and out more than you think. We aren't Romany.

OK, I 'm going to say I think it would be very hard for a woman to marry in in most circs. Quite apart from the other cultural stuff ... Clean doesn't descibe the inside of places. Few british women clean like that, even really houseproud ones.

We viewed a property (Part of a whole worth a couple of millions) and I was thinking the guy had done well looking round from a distance, when we went in and I saw the clean, clean nature and the way the women and kids went into a next room so the dad could talk to us I thought it was probably settled gypsies. Clean like you wouldn't believe. cleaner than the labs or operating ttrs at either of my places of education.

edit:and no smell of cleaners either...just ...clean.

Who gives a toss about tax evasion? You have people like Sir Philip Green paying tuppence a year, I dont judge the pi keys for that

The violence. Now that I have a problem with.

I cant speak for the Rom, they are a breed apart. My lot thrive on vilolence, it is their answer to everything

Do you notice the TV programme only talks to the children

There is a reason for that

I give a toss wS, I don't expect you to agree, but I do care.

And the violence. And the failure to provide education. I applaud you for breaking that cycle for your daughter.

That's one of the issues I have with the programmes ws. I don't think they do enough to distinguish between the travelling communities. As I said yesterday, when they said about how important holy communion is to travellers I couldn't relate to that at all. My nan didn't have communion. She read the tea leaves !!!!!! and was much more into superstition and ritual which is definitely the Rom way.
