I only ever heard of that once. They beat the girl half to death.

Did they find someone to marry her afterwards?

Is her life still blighted by it?

what's your personal opinion on it?

Sorry ws, I realise it all sounds like an interrogation< but I'm interested!

I didn't understand the money angle. The lads all work as labourers, yet the girls were forever buying trinkets and expensive dresses. One girl said she spent upto £300 on a dress for a party and would only ever where them once!

Well labourer, it's a bit like saying Prince Charles is an organic farmer.

Everyone is self-employed, no-one pays tax*

Everyone "dabbles". Bit of this, bit of that. Some of it is even legal.

Very, very few tinkers are poor.

    * I never knew anyone that signed on or took a penny in tax credits or anything else.

Free school meals was an issue when I was a kid, I remember that....it was available, but a fairly limited value. Some sites were council gifted not bought...not sure how common that is, but in home counties is a big value...bigger than child benefit or anything was back then.

There are no unmarried tinkers unless they are a bit simple and even then someone can usually be talked into taking them on.

The real problem is the ones who do the unthinkable and leave their marriages. There is no place amongst the travelling community for a woman who has left her husband.

She is viewed as no better than a prostitute.
How does that work out mathematically? There are more women than men, in all age groups, so there must be some women left over.

There's lots of people with different neurological problems and how they figured out from them which bits of the brains do what.

*i think my brain is missing the actual communicating technical information bit*

Missk I missed it. Did it reference the work of Klawans or Oliver Sacks? We have a thing in tifositowers about their works. DH loves them.

10 o'clock decision: New comedy series on channel 4 or new series of brothers and sisters on more4?

The new fake news series for me. I've been looking forward to it for ages.

    No.

    Yes.

My opinion? In many ways I am the wrong person to ask.

I stayed in a violent marriage for years because I knew it would cost me my family if I left. My best friend still turns her face from me in the street.

It tooks years before my mother or anyone else in my family would speak to me and only then because I had sat "daysant", raised my daughter, kept my head down.

A relationship for me is out of the question. My husband, and make no mistake, until the day one of us dies he will always be my husband, can do as he pleases, I can't if I want to have my family.

It is hard enough for them as it is.

Leaving my husband has had a huge positive effect on my daughter. She is at fu cking university. You cant even start to realise how amazing that is. Mind you she dresses like a tart. I am beginning to think it is genetic.

I think there is a great deal to be said for my community, no travelling family ever needs to sit in a faceless office begging for fourpence. Like the muslim community, as long as you conform you are safe.

But my heart breaks for them
