I can understand where you are coming from PN....when I was younger, I never imagined a life of being a carer, a successful career woman yes, a carer no.
....
But the body does some amazing things, I went from someone who couldn't give a damn about having children to one whose biological clock started ticking very loudly and desperately upon being told that I only had a very small window to become pregnant, only for that window to pass and to be left in absolute despair at the thought of no children ever.
But you had children and people care for their own children, so you being their carer on top of that is just an extension. It's your house, your rules, your things. Caring for adults, in their own home, when it's your parents ... is a completely different ball game. This house was never my home, I am just 'a visitor' here. They moved here 10 years after I'd left home.
You have no say-so, nothing. No space, no rights. More like an enslaved role of the worst kind.
As a carer of your own kids, if you tell them it's egg/chips for tea, it is. You have the high ground for the argument. If you tell them 8pm's bed time, it is. You have the high ground for the argument. You can't do that to elderlies. If you tell them to shut up while you watch the telly, you can. I'm more hiding in my room, eating chocolate bars and having no TV. Can't make/receive phone calls without some huge explanation as I have to explain who is calling me, why and everything that's said. Certainly could never have anybody round. Even going out is a test of endurance, cross-questioning and annoyances, so it becomes easier not to do anything.
You chose to have children, I didn't choose to have parents.0 -

I believe the standard of the data deserves to be reviewed by mypeers. That means you. In general women (and I mean general, I know a substantial minority of men are as well qualified) have opportunity to collate data from a sample biggerthan one. There is no clean way to say that while I'm tired from sale shopping.

Fair point.
Don't feel the need to keep anything clean on my account though0 -

I'm thinking of poor misskool: who has to keep us in some sort of order.:D and myself: I think I've done enough to damage my reputation, and I'm a home owning, middle class respectable woman now. Oh, how sad that makes me feel.
Size fifteen? I have a friend who has similar size feet and can't drive lots of cars because his feet are too big for the pedals.
I bought a garden bench today....reduced from £140 to £50. I'm very pleased with that. Its mainly decorative, a perfect size for a recess with a superb view. And some new towels.
And my oil was delivered (hurrah) but we can't get the boiler back on....
edit: boiler now on....smells a bit oily though.
I'm also going to bit the bullet and buy a dehumidifier. I need one with a frost control. Any one got any personal recommendations or warnings?0 -
I heard that if your oil's running low you have to turn your heating off, because if it "just runs out" there are things you have to do to the system to get it going again, which involve phoning up and getting some 'little man' in.0

Just ventured downstairs, 3 arguments, I'm back up here again now. All angry. It's so bl00dy miserable all the time, there's no joy. Not in anything. Ever.0
