From my experience during the very few occasions I've tried to do anything with iTunes I'm not at all convinced that statement is correct.

I think the vagaries of iTunes goes a very long way towards explaining why MP3 downloading is so popular.

Plus why does it install so much other junk without asking for permission? Junk which also grabs most media file associations

iDon't know, perhaps because they don't have any iDea that there are other options, because they desigend it for a closed system i suppose.

It doesn't grab 'most media file associations'.

I have seen the 'make itunes my default music player' questions numerous times, and always say no. I guess you said yes without checking what it was asking.

Issues with file associations are usually down to user error.

Itunes is rubbish along with quicktime and safari. Always use an alternative!

I hate itunes. Only keep it for the podcasts that dont supply a proper link.

Use sharepod. It swaps your music on and off your ipod. Far better.

It wasn't actually iTunes I was complaining about it was Quicktime which the iTunes install didn't even ask permission to install and didn't sfaik ask permission to grab all the video media types. I naturally uninstalled it plus Bonjour which I neither asked for nor wanted either.

I've managed to install iTunes and a number of updates to it without installing Safari or Bonjour. Always seems to give me a choice. Funny, that.

right i never have any problems with computers but OMG itunes is an absolute nitemare

does sync not mean it syncs the iphone and pc so they are the same?
    No

i have all my songs on my iphone but no longer on my new PC after a hard disk failure. Surely if i sync it should put them back on the computer?

    Again no

what am i doing wrong before i cut the phone in half
Your trying to do something Itunes does not do , i.e sync a I tunes library from a Ipod . there are 3rd party software programs that let you pull your ipod content off the ipod onto a hard drive ect .

the last time i pressed sync with an apple device it synced an empty itunes to my full ipod and wiped the lot
well if you sync a ipod to a empty itunes library your going to get a empty ipod unless you tell Itunes what to do before hand .

yes I tunes can be annoying sometimes , but used right it is easy most of the time .

we have 6 Apple devices ( 2 classics , 2 Nano's and 2 Iphones ) and you don't just sync your entire library to all of them willy nilly . this is where Playlists come in .

i don't like some of my OH's music and vice versa but we store all our music in one library . plus i cannot fit all of my library on a Nano or Iphone . so solution is to create a playlist for each device . My Nano playlist is songs i listen to when working out at the gym for example . get your itunes set up first, then plug in your device .

i do think for someone who wants a few songs on there Ipod , a drag and drop 3rd party program might be better , but when you library consists of 600 albums , various Podcasts , audio books and you want to put Apps and Photos on your Iphone , Itunes gives you the control you need .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

this i agree with if your a windows user . windows users don't really need Safari or Bonjour. And Mac Users like me already have it installed on the computer out the box .

and Itunes works a lot better on a Mac IMO as well .

It did, but its hitting the same bloatware status as the PC version.

It also messes your library up majorly if you've already sorted it manually.

The logic behind the 'iTunes Master'/'iPod Slave' synch arrangement is surely that you are far more likely to lose/damage your iPod than your PC. And if you have backed up your PC data (as you should) then you will be fine even if there is a problem with the master.
