Eh up! I sent of for a SIM a few weeks ago, and topped up with £10, and have been trying to get a valid text-ticket for this Wednesday. Two points...
    • The free £1 top up vs Orange Wednesdays 2-for-1.

Yes, it seems you do get a free £1 top up once the free PAYG SIM is properly registered and activated. However, it would seem from my experience so far that certain services do not come out of this balance, such as the Orange Wednesdays ticket request.

So it seems you DO need to make a real top up, even though you get a free £1 top up.

      Additionally
, this £1 doesn't show up on the online or WAP portal (not even under "extras"). To find out how much of the £1 bundle you have left, call 453, and press "1" to hear the remaining balance of your "Extras" (why it tells you here, and not on the list of extras given on the WAP portal or online, I don't know.) Here you can find out how many of your remaining 300 free texts you get are (which seem to take 24+ hours to be added after you top up with £10.)
    • It doesn't seem to be terribly reliable, and has cost me money already!

      Today is Monday, I've been trying to request a text-ticket since Thursday;

      a) three requests using my browser to access the link in the Orange World WAP Portal (which it seems costs money to acces -- any page other than the current usage and front page -- unlike 3 it doesn't seem to tell you when you're entering chargeable pages), and

      b) I also sent two regular text requests ("film" to 241).

I didn't receive any reply or acknowledgement until this morning. This morning I got four texts, all together, that each cost me money, all telling me that I've already received a text ticket, and to use that. Guess what? The one thing that wasn't sent was the original text-ticket! Thanks guys!

Have spoken to Orange C.S. (at a further cost of 25p for the call) and Odeon C.S. (an 0871 number, so that's cost as well) who have assured me that the "Sorry" text will still count as a ticket, as it has the text-ticket number in it and the validity date. But we'll see! It had better do! I'm proper proper skint, this was in theory the only reasonably inexpensive way I can get out to treat myself occasionally, and it's becoming expensive and messy already, with no guarantee of seeing nowt.
  • Could anyone advise on how long this process actually takes for the text message to reach me?

Any help would be much appreciated Moneysavers......

    Thanks
  • To answer a few of the above questions, hope this helps some of you.

You can get your Orange Code a few days before the Wednesday.

When you code arrives it is dated for the Wednesday of that week, you cannot use it next week.

If you request a code on Wednesday itself, it may take a while to text you back (2 hours for me last week).

At the box office, you present your code and ask for two tickets and you will be charged for one.

At Showcase Cinema (the one I use) you can either take your phone and show the text OR write it on notepaper.

If you have two or more Orange Wednesday codes I found it best to write them down, (recently brought 22 tickets with 11 codes for Mamma Mia, just handed the notepaper over at the box office, paid for 11, got 22 tickets, just make sure that you copy them correctly from the text)

You can only purchase Orange Wednesday tickets on Wednesday, you CANNOT purchase them beforehand as the Orange Computer does not come online until Wednesday Morning (so I am told by Showcase)

And lastly Orange Wednesdays is very popular for obvious reasons, so if your film choice is a blockbuster, you may want to make a trip to the cinema first thing in the morning (if you can get there) and purchase your tickets for the evenings screening

Hope this has helped some of you MoneySavers!!

Can someone spare a Orange 241 code for today pls ? :)
  • I cannot believe that MONEYSAVING EXPERT are reccomending that the Public go and spend the minimum of £1 just to get in on the offer, now that MSE have broadcast how to 'SCAM' the offer, things like this will not be available as a perk forthe real Orange customers that spend their hard earned money and get this nice offer back, this offer will be risked now that you have told joe public to basicaLLY LIE and get a deal that do not truly deserve. This is underhand and bad advice from MSE. Lets face it MONEY SAVING EXPERT are just a bunch of LONDON SCAM ARTISTS TRYING TO RIP OFF EVERY DEAL OFFERED BY PROFRFESSIONAL COMPANIES. YOU ARE JUST RATS EATING AWAY AT THE MORAL FABRIC. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HONEST RETAILERS. INFACT YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN SCUM OR THE STUFF I WIPE OFF MY SHOES.

Orange Wednesday is a brilliant scheme that both Orange and cinemas are in on. Cinemas are notoriously empty on Monday-Thursday evenings. Go into a screening of a film that has been out for at least a week during these days, and the cinema will be mostly empty.

The cinema will gladly have half the income from 2 people coming than none at all during these days. There is also the potential for the cinema goers to think "hey, I've just saved myself £3, I'll treat myself to some pop-corn". This means that the cinema is likely to recoup the cost of the free cinema ticket through concessions. I do not begrudge them this at all. I quite like getting my 'free' popcorn or my 'free' drink.

Cineworld must have been jumping up and down with joy when I took my friend for 'free' to see a film on Wednesday... We both bought goods from the stand :).

It's not a rip off, it's a nice situation where everybody (cinema, Orange, cinema goer) are all winners!
