Followed Martin's advice and applied for a free Orange PAYG sim with £5 top up. Received sim and followed affordablemobiles.co.uk instructions. I did manage to get the simregister.co.uk page and registered for my £5 top up. Their website does inform you that it can take up to 48 hours for the credit to be applied.

This appears to be true. Yesterday [Wednesday 29th] 9.30 a.m. I activated sim and registered for £5 credit. Wife and I wanted to see a movie that evening. No luck. To date [Thursday 30th] 1.00 p.m. no credit has been applied. Credit on sim remains at £0.01p.

I will update this post if/when £5 is credited to account.

    Saturday 01st August 09
It's now been 72 hours since registering with www.simregister.co.uk and £5.00 has still not been credited to my account.

I contacted www.affordablemobiles.co.co.uk on 0800 - 082 - 9000 and was advised to call Pre-pay Connections on 0845 - 880 - 1234 [no alternative number on saynoto0870 website]. Both telephone numbers connect to the same affordablemobiles call centre yet the agent I spoke to on their freephone number refused to transfer my call.

I contacted their Pre-pay Connections Dept on 0845 - 880 - 1234 and spoke to Conner. I was advised that a number of other customers had contacted him today, reporting the same problem.
The fault appears to be with the www.simregister.co.uk website not processing the
    “Top Ups” [£5.00 credit].

My details were taken and I was assured that my £5.00 credit will be processed manually and applied to my PAYG account by Monday 03rd August 09.

When did Martin send out this offer (Free Orange Sim card and a £5 top-up)? Because I ordered the sim card the day that offer came out on the weekly email to us and I still haven't received it???

Edit: Just called Affordable Mobiles about where is SIM is (I ordered it on 22nd July) and they have told me that they are currently out of stock expecting another delivery tomorrow and that they got over 36,000 orders for that particular offer!!!!!
I suppose as its all free I'll sit tight but I do they think they should have emailed and let know the SIM was out of stock and my delivery delayed.

  • I got the SIM in the post. You put it in your phone and you're supposed to get a txt from Orange telling you your new number and your PIN. This didn't come. Affordable mobiles told me to call Orange. Trouble is, there's no credit so it won't connect me to Orange customer services (20p per minute).

Instead I dialled customer services (0800 079 0006) went to the "Change your ID" option and pressed *. This gets around the robot and puts you through to a human. Got the number and ID and have now registered on simregister.co.uk. Waiting for credit to appear...

Thanks for the advice paulofalus. I wan't able to register through simregister.co.uk. I'm with Virgin, perhaps thats why. Even if I could get onto the site, I wouldn't have had my mobile phone and PIN number because either I deleted them or they deleted them selfs. Seriously, I did delete all the texts as described on the sheet gomobile provided, however once I opened and closed the text with the numbers on, the text disapeared. I recieved 5 or 6 texts in total. Some one tell me that I'm not imagining stuff.

I used paulofalus's method to get to customer services without paying. The way I got through:

    Change account settings>>change ID code>>press 2>>*>>*

Press * then wait then press * again. This puts you through to a human.

I talked the customer service person and after alot of waiting (20min aprox.) he said that I'll get £1 for registering and the £5 should follow in 48 hours.

I'll have to wait and see. I want to go to the cinema this wednesday.

Ps. Do I call 450 to see my balance?

I thought this was a bargain, but it's an even BETTER one if you have an existing mobile number you would like to transfer. You get an ADDITIONAL £10 credit, making a total of £15!!

Got a txt from Orange saying they'd give me a £1 for registering but this hasn't appeared yet.

However, the £5 credit appeared yesterday. Yay!

By the way, change to the racoon plan - it's the cheapest option. Calls are 15p a minute and txts are 10p.

Of course, the Asda SIM is the cheapest around: 8p a minute calls and 4p per txt.
