  • What I think you should do

Refuse to pay - this is an obvious fee avoidance scheme. Report the seller to Ebay, stating that the bat you bought seemed a little on the high side for postage, but now you have done further research, it's an obvious fee avoidance scheme and you don't trust the seller at all.... and take any neg consequences.

    What I would actually do

Back out, give good feedback which stressed the positives (good communication, good value for actual purchase price.) Exchange feedback, keep screenshots of other sales THEN report to Ebay once feedback finalised.

    I'm not perfect :o

If I had bought this bat with a total purchase price of £30 inc postage, I would still be worried about this seller when I saw other bats with the ridiculous postages quoted here!

Even though they have 2,000 positive feedback? What's to worry about? Should the item not arrive, you are covered. Yes the seller is fee avoiding, but how is that your problem?

Too right it is, if it happens too much eBay have to raise their fees to compensate, and that hits legitimate sellers.

I run a legitimate business on ebay so yes people breaking the rules does affect me. If the OP in this case, or indeed any buyer, decides that ebay isn't worth bothering with due to some sellers then that affects me as a seller as that is one less portential buyer using ebay.

Likewise if i ran a shop and discovered someone a few doors down were not paying their business rates rates or lying to the VAT man i would probably report them as well as again it affects my business.

As a seller I want buyers to see ebay as a real contendor, somewhere where they can trade safely and deal with good honest sellers , I don't want them to feel ripped off and give up on ebay.

By that logic, if a business in a shopping centre was found to be bending the rules, or you had a bad experience in one shop, you would never go to that shopping centre again.
    Please.

Seriously look at some of the threads on here even from the past few weeks.

Buyer has a bad experience and what do they say 'that's it, I'm never using ebay again'.

Actually though there are whole towns I will never go back to as my memories of them are poor.

But that's exactly what some people do.

Once bitten, twice shy and all that.

There are some things I won't buy at all off eBay because I've had such bad luck. I know I upset someone earlier in the year for saying that, but I know I can get better elsewhere, even if the three or four people I've bought a certain item off were bad and they were a good seller of such items.

Never using ebay again, never using Royal Mail again, never using City Link again - it's all overreaction and nonsense. My kids used to say they would never speak to me again if they were grounded. If only that had been true.
Car mechanics are possibly the most moaned about profession - but you don't stop having your car fixed.
There are too many far fetched notions expressed as if they ar truths on this particular board. A seller who inflates postage is going to be dodgy in some other way - ridiculous. If you have ever run a real business, you use as many dodges as you can. People won't stop buying from me if some other seller stitches them up either.
These boards represent a miniscule minority of ebay users, so cannot be used as a benchmark.

It seems rather ironic that the OP is trying to avoid paying for the cricket bat that he won on an auction with all the evidence in front of him yet is now saying the seller is the dishonest one.

Has anyone got the link for this auction ? I asked for it earlier but it hasn't been forthcoming.

I wanted to see if the p&p really is that 'sly' etc etc
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
