I have made a BIG mistake!

I have checked again, and the same seller has a range of bats, all priced at 99p, with the economy delivery priced at between £19.99 and £140.
I would say this is deliberately misleading.
Yes it is deliberately misleading and can be reported to ebay, but ebay will almost certainly not do anything about it.
The only reason his bats sell so cheaply is that most buyers see the post and packing, have a good laugh at such a stupid seller and buy from someone else. Unfortunately you have left yourself in a very tricky situation as although you cannot be forced to pay you could end up with a strike. One strike is not an issue but get a second and you effectively ban yourself from buying on ebay as most sellers will have you blocked automatically.
This sort of seller is rather dim as they haven't realised that by setting up their auctions correctly and sticking to the rules would almost certainly mean they sell more, not less.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. reminds me of the time when, my daughter aged 3 at the time bid 500k on a pair of boots I'd been looking at after I stepped away for a moment:eek:
Needless to say no-one outbid us but to be honest I hadn't realised what had happened until I received the 'you have won' email!
Sent a grovelling apology and the seller let me off, that was the end of her online purchasing, I can tell you!!!
500k:eek: Somehow I feel this may be one of those few times when a 'can I cancel the bid, it was my 3-year old who bid on these shoes' may sound credible......0 -

My friends 3 year old bought herself a set of alloys for a car they didnt even own, she was playing with his iPad and he'd left it on ebay
Fortunately the seller saw the funny side and let him off.0 -

You have no way of backing that last statement up. or indeed the one before. Most buyers who are looking for these items would know that the same bat over here would cost at least double. From the success of all these "poor sellers" who charge inflated postage, I would guess that most buyers are looking for the cheapest overall deal. But it's just a guess.
I would also question how the ad is deliberately misleading? The p&p comes up in the list when you do a search, then is displayed directly below the price on the description. How could the OP miss that?
I don't think this seller is going to give the OP problems in this case.
His problem is he can't read and digest two lines of a listing.0 -

1) The postage and packing is of wildly varying amounts, for what are virtually identical items - from £20 to £150. I therefore maintain that the ad is misleading.
2) From the outset, I admitted that I made a mistake, not noticing the carriage charges.
You of course simply come across as a very rude arrogant person, who has never made a mistake in their life.
"His problem is he can't read and digest two lines of a listing." - Please keep petty insults to yourself in future.0 -
I have now been advised by the seller that in order to avoid them reporting me to ebay, I have to give them a top feedback score. By doing this, would I leave myself open to any other claims?0

Limiting your pool of buyers for any reason will limit your end prices. Enough people on MSE threads and on the community boards have said they will NOT buy from someone who sets their auctions up like this. That means the seller has less buyers who will buy from him.
Add to that the buyers here and on the boards that have said they would buy if there was no alternative but would hit the stars , again that can really affect a seller as anything less than perfect 5* across the board impacts on the seller dashboard.
The idea of selling on ebay is to 'sell' not to alienate half the buyers before you even start and trhen risk your account with the rest.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No, but they can still open an NPB dispute, which is essentially the same thing. They would be within their rights to do so, but one isn't usually a problem and as long as you don't do this again, then it won't matter.I have now been advised by the seller that in order to avoid them reporting me to ebay, I have to give them a top feedback score. You can also report him for fee avoidance, which I suggest you do."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Yep, blackmail is a nasty thing that can come back and bite you. You leave glowing feedback and then seller opens a full NPB on you...you then get a strike but seller still has glowing feedback.
If you manage to persuade seller to opt for a mutual cancellation before you leave feedback to safeguard yourself, and seller agrees then he is even dimmer than he at first appears.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The idea of selling on ebay is to make a profit, not simply "to sell". I don't inflate postage, but am happy to buy from a seller who does if the total price is right. Therefore my buying is based on economics also. Your ebay business pays for holidays, crowqueen's is non-existent. Mine isn't huge, but makes a good living wage. I'm happy with that and do not have the time or interest to worry about what others do. In the real world, if I offered you an item cheaper than the guy next door, you would buy from me. You wouldn't dream of asking me whether I was paying the correct amount of tax or vat.
Just tell me why these vast numbers of buyers on these forums bother to report such a seller if, as in your view, they are doomed anyway?0
