PP - good luck to your DD and also to Redrubys DD and anyone else doing mocks!

PP - hope you manage to stay nice and snug in bed x x

DH just text me and he's stuck on a bank in the middle of the countryside so unless he gets a tow he'll have to give up. He hates letting his customers down but his little van isn't 4 wheel drive . He's having a coffee from his flask and deciding what to do.
Seems like some areas around here have it worse than we do - main roads ok but its the country lanes that are hazardous and I've heard of an overturned car not too far away on the news.

Dogs and birdies(and ferret) all fed and watered.

Our town has its famous Holly and Mistletoe sales starting today - just up the road from me - it'll be on the Midland news tonight! - id I dont go shopping I'll take a walk up there for a nosey!:)

Pollys - my DH has got 2 prolapsed discs in his lower back. There's not a lot they can do, he just has to be sensible. He had to be on permanent painkillers but he manages to work ok with it.

I was offered the option of an operation, but decided to opt for physiotherapy. Operation may leave me with a stiff back and scar tissue. So will see how the physio goes.

Hope your DH is ok and gets home safely x

Hi everyone. No snow here but it's certainly cold enough. We've had a hard frost but the sun is out and it's slowly disappearing.

BIL arrives today to help DH finish off the plumbing so I'm going to make a huge sausage casserole, using the lovely sausages from our local farm.

PenPincher - it's so sad for your poor friends. I'm sure that looking after their other children will be very welcome to them. My condolences to them.

Good luck to all those who are taking mock exams today, assuming they all get to school. We follow the UK news very closely and I can't believe how much snow is falling. I do hope you are all managing to keep warm and safe. They've forecast some snow here but they don't expect it to amount to much. I've still made sure we're stocked up, though. If it does snow, we'll be stuck in the house because they won't grit the rural roads. WE can survive here for quite a while, I think.

Well, off for another cuppa then I must venture out and feed the birds. They get through loads of food at this time of year. Their water bowl will be frozen solid, so I'll have to bang that to get the ice out. How they stay warm, I'll never know.

Have a good day, everyone, and keep safe in all that snow.

NOOOOOO! Snow has hit! It was only forecast for North and East London but we've caught an inch or two in Kingston and it's still snowing, set to get heavier later. I'm going to head in to uni early before it gets heavier, I'd be quite happy to be stuck in the 24h library if it got bad (it won't) soooo cosy :D Going to use the crazy microwave for a big bowl of porridge witha blob of nutella, perfecto ;)
Kicking myself for leaving both of my warm waterproof parkas in Brum! I shall top up the waterproofing on my uggs and pile on the layers before I head out.

Hope all you OSers with inches, almost feet, of snow are managing okay. I heard there have been power cuts in Scotland.

penny-pincher, that's a lovely thing to do for your friend. I didn't know value veg was that cheap, i'll have to try it.

polly, my mum had an operation for prolapsed discs in her back and the recovery was awful, she was bed bound and on so many strong pain killers she didn't know what was going on. If she could have had physio instead, she would have.
The scar is only very tiny though, and ~3 years on she still does exercises every morning and has to be a little more careful about what she carriers.

  • Value Veg-Its the basics frozen mixed veg in MrS and either 31p or 32p for a kilo. I've roughly worked out that there is 12 portions of veg per bag. Equates to 2.6p per serving. So if you used 2 portions daily it would be just over 1 bag per week needed for each person at 31/32p, then the other 3 portions made up with fruit, juice etc. Really your 5 a day could be done very cheaply if needed and the veg is actually okay from being frozen. Steaming cooks it best and is ideal for stews etc.

I have used this for veg soup too and it was lovely. Added extra onion, pepper, potato and stock cube.

Really? Where? I may have blinked and missed it. Oh is that what the pathetic half a centimetre is all over the garden. I shan't repeat the phrase I used on FB but to be frank sometimes size DOES matter :rotfl::rotfl:

Hurt my back getting DD out of the cot this morning. H thinks it's time she's in a proper bed :eek: Nooooooooooo she'll be able to run free then
DD being totally uncooperative about EVERYTHING and is doing my nut in. Mia is going mental running round the house and has just broken a Xmas ornament.
Plans for today are more Xmas craft, making cards, got to pop to Tesco to get some little gems I stick on the cards, some baking and need to put the vac round.

Penpin - Hugs for you my lovely. Hope you're warm and snug in bed xx

Tappers - Hope H makes it back safe xx

Sorry everything else has gone from my head.

Happy St Andrews Day everyone :T

Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good day OS or not.

Monkey nuts are ok for adult birds, fledglings can sometimes choke on them, but there will not be any about at the moment, so shove some out for them xx

    Morning All,
    Happy St Andrews Day
Well lots of snow, poor DS waited an hour for a bus that didn't turn up :( so I told him to come home, it's still snowing so even if he had managed to get into town I think he would have been sent home early. He & DP are watching Beowolf at the moment whilst I sit here quietly planning the rest of their day for them ;)
New visitors to jaxx snaxx :rotfl:today include 2 magpies and a great tit :) between being on here & looking out of the window I don't think I'm going to get much done today :o just as well the men are home, I will just supervise them :D
Have no plans to go anywhere as JackieO says that walking in the snow with a stick is not good so I will listen to the voice of experience there :)
Right I'm off to get some soup out of the freezer for lunch & it's frog in a bog for tea tonight so I'd better get some sausages out as well.

Hope everyone is keeping warm & safe, hugs, hi fives & best wishes to all,

BB whenever you've got time hon no hurry.

:j this is a MUCH cheaper alternative to frozen peas and will go perfectly in chicken & veg stew with parsley dumplings. and sounds easier than dicing carrots for a veg soup :o
