Well, I'm getting extremely fed up with the white stuff, it's SO deep here and just keeps coming! My kind pal up the road offered to get me bread and milk as she was walking over to A$da, so I have supplies! Apparently they were restricting the bread to 2 loaves per person. OH has been ordered to bring some up on the train from London tomorrow - bootleg B&M, who would have thought it? At one time he would have brought me a romantic pressie - now it's hard necessities:rotfl::rotfl:
Tried to do my neighbourly bit today - I knocked on the door of an older couple in my street whom I dont know well, but I often speak to in passing, just to see if they were ok/ needed anything. They looked at me as if I was mad and and were a bit nippy with me.:( I apologised and said I didnt mean to be intrusive, but in view of the fact we are snowbound here, I was only offering help with shopping etc. "No, we are perfectly capable of getting out and about, we're not that old, was the retort." Felt really embarrassed actually.:o I just thought I'd ask as I'd hate my Mum & Dad to be stuck without help in these conditions.
    Sorry for the rant!;)

Anyway, on the postive side - I got my Christmas cards written, a job I loathe and always put off till the last minute, so a pat on the back for me for that!:T

Beanie - I'll give you a wave from this side of the Forth:)

  • Hi all

I can declare a 2nd NSD as apart from not actually needing anything the snow has made me just want to stay in the warmth. Fortunately OH went shopping yesterday so we are stocked up!

    Hi karma-chi
Welcome back, will add you to the front page later. You're the first person I've "met" who likes dates.. seriously. Everyone else I know buys them because they're a Christmas thing but they end up throwing them out in June:D:D

Well, you've met another one here.....

    They're yummy scrummy things :D

At Christmas I have them stoned, then stuffed with marzipan (which gets rolled into a sausage shape and then in hundred and thousands before being cut into 'date length' pieces and being inserted).

The rest of the year I just tend to have them 'as is' with cheese and biscuits or just 'as is' as a fruit. I'm also rather partial to the Date and Walnut bread they do at work, and plan to try a recipe for Date & Walnut cake next year (if I can find it again!)

My Mum's parents introduced us to the blocks of pressed dates as young children - whenever we went over for Sunday lunch they always came out with the cheese and biscuits afterwards :)

IfWishes.... I luuuuurve that cartoon :rotfl:
