Leave snow on car or sweep it off?

My brother lives with me and departs before 7 am for work. Out of generosity (?) I allow him to use the garage and eliminate any need to scrape/dig out his car. Fed up with my own car icing up I purchased a car cover and it has been wonderful this winter. I peel the thing off and the car is clear, I just have to start it up. Best £45 I ever spent!0

i think its illegal to drive with snow on top of car!0

So the Metro is publishing viral text messages as fact now?
Oh dear, time to switch to the Sunday Sport for higher quality reporting.0 -

Surely if someone is driving so close to you that snow sliding off your roof is a hazard to them, then they are driving far too close in these snowy conditions.0

No not at all, I can see why somene would think that though.
Imagine it all coming of in a one and being caught by a gust, or landing with impact and forming a lump in the carriageway. All sorts of problems can be caused by it. Or bits of it blowing off then hitting the car well behind on the windscreen at motorway speeds, they are a bit heavier than snowflakes. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. police forces in our area were handing out the fines 2 weeks go when the snow was really bad in our area. The local council even sent out a email to their staff warning them of the risk.
As for a viral text the highway code states this
"you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows and remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users"
so wouldnt say its aviral text issue more like a fact.
I would also say that the snow might fall on to your windscreen and this can also mean you cant actually see where you are going. Only takes a few minutes to clear so lets make sure we do

if it forces the message into the idiot numbskulls that drive with snow on their roofs to clean it off then I have no problem with the report and would have no problem with any newspaper reporting that there were squads walking around vaporizing the cars and idiot drivers driving with snow on their roofs.
ok perhaps the vaporizing cars is a bit much but the point still stands.0 -
Oh absolutely I support the principle of the viral message, which is to get people to actually clear the bloody stuff off. I just expect better from journalists.
To be fair though, the text message claims that the police are doing a fixed penalty, which they can't do without legislation, as confirmed by several police forces. You can still get done for it, but it would have to be a good old fashioned trip to the magistrates court.0 -

Yeah, I can see how that could/would be a problem.
If only cars had some kind of device/equipment fitted to wipe the windscreen should something fall onto it. :cool:0
