65 for State Pension, and Savings Credit. The age for Guarantee Credit is sliding, from 60 going upwards. As you would find if you cheked the link properly.

The OP is apparently on IB/ESA and DLA, and hasn't mentioned staying in a car park in previous posts. Also, as they chose to describe their inability to work as "not at the moment", it is appropriate to link that to 12 years of claiming through incapacity.

The incongruity of the choice of words reflects an attitude to support that has seen the OP waste the best part of a quarter of a lifetime (and potentially another quarter in the future) on a low level income, with little likelihood of an improved outlook. If you want to pat them on the back, that's fine.

I'd rather they faced what they've done with the last 20 years and thought about how they will spend the next 20.

Agree with above particularly as the OP has said in 2 different threads that 'they want to work' and then 'they can't, not at the moment'.

It's all moot points to be honest as I think I hear the clippity clops above me....:p

Alas, I am giving the OP the MSE benefit of the doubt, so sitting on hands!

People with addictions and mental health issues don't suffer simply from a lack of willpower but caught in something that they find uncontrollable and which affects their decision making. A person is often homeless and/or workless through multiple and complex reasons, not just because of an 'attitude' problem.

It's shameful to read posts from forum members criticising a street homeless person from their warm home as the snow is falling.

The ones near me stay open until 7pm.

But don't you need an address to get a library card in the first place?

He didn't say he'd been homeless for 20 years.

Anyway, as a serious answer to what may have been a hypothetical question, it did occur to me that possibly a callcentre would be a slim hope, depending on interviewers. Particularly if you could do a late or overnight shifts, when there are fewer staff in as the busy atmosphere in full flow may be hard on your senses if you're not too used to be in peopled environments. From the post, OP appears to have sufficiently decent wordprocessing skills.

I am basing this on my own experience of working in call centres, repetitiveness of the tasks and people I have encountered there (this comment is not meant to be funny!) Not my favourite place to work and not the greatest of employers either, but I appreciate the fact that people do, the fact that I was able to whilst setting up my own business and the extended services we get because call centres exist.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • really ? i'm a bloke though, don't i have to be 65 to get a pension, or is 'pension credit' different from a normal pension?

Pension Credit is not the same as State Pension, it is basically Income Support for people over 60 and if you have reached the relevant age you will be eligible to apply for it. Unlike State Pension it is means-tested. If you qualify you will also get your rent and Council Tax paid.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Thanks for the info, and taking the time to respond:T Now then, there seems to be a healthy interest in my local library, it is situated halfway down the kings road in chelsea, opposite the cinema, i believe it is a listed building and is architecturally quite striking, the hours of opening are as follows-mon-fri 10am-7pm, sat 10am-3pm, i retain my library card as i was only made homeless 4 weeks ago, due to relapse after 5 years sobriety, the events that bought me to my current situation, i would rather not talk about at this time, suffice to say they were traumatic and i was weak, yes i am a waster, as loopy girl so elequently points out, yes, while i'm drinking i'm a crap excuse for a human being, but it has not always been the case, as we speak i have been assessed for treatment in a detoxification unit, and hope to be admitted next week, anyway happy christmas to one and all:j
