Ohh good luck everyone.
I was in the same position last year We had a short chain (selling to a FTB, buying house from someone who already had a place to go to). Our offer was accepted on 11 Sept and we just about managed to complete on 21 Dec only because I made a gazillion phone calls to everyone to speed things up. If I had left it up to the solicitors, it wouldn't have happened until January.
So my tip is, keep on top of things and put pressure on your solicitor!0 -
Thanks van! Good advice, which reminds me to call my solicitor AND EA tomorrow. Will post any update... Goodnite!0

Suppose I'll have my answer as soon as next Friday.
If we have exchanged (or are bloody close) we will be in by Xmas, if not, then it will be the New Year.
All ties in with our AST ending on the 3rd of each month.
Best of luck everyone.0 -
Really interesting reading about others wanting to be in by Xmas. We had offer accepted on 24th October. Haven't kept records of dates of other things like some of you peeps have but so for have:
Mortgae offer
Survey come back okay
2 out of 3 searches back
replies to additional enquiries back (but bit of a worry over no planning permission for extension - but i think I'm okay with that due to helpful peeps on this site!)
Signed contact to sell my place
Signed contact to buy new place
New house owners buying house whose owner going into rented - so end f chain.
What else can I possibly have to wait for?????????????!
If I'm not in by Xmas I will cry (a lot)!0 -
Err, okay, things not moved THAT quikly!!! Offer accepted in September!!0

Hi missbee, welcome! I read your first post quickly and thought 'oh my god, that's quick, I am so jealous!' Your sale/purchase definitely sounds very straightforward. Good luck!
Well, at 9.30am this morning, my EA (who has obviously now returned from her holiday) called to leave a message on my answerphone to ask if we have received our mortgage offer? Oh my goodness, I wanted to kill her! I wanted to say 'well, if your colleague had bothered to actually read any of the messages left for her or call back when she said she would, you would have known we had our mortgage offer back on Friday!' Argh argh argh, especially as we (me and financial advisor) called several times to leave messages about either her colleague calling us back or telling her WE HAD RECEIVED THE MORTGAGE OFFER!
At least, the good news is she is now going to call the vendors hoping that they are moving along the same pace. Fingers crossed! I really CANNOT believe the incompetence of some people.

Hi dkny,
We almost are on exactly the same time scale! Our offer was accepted the day before yours and we both received the mortgage offer on the same day! :j
We handed our cheque to the solicitor fairly early on - 6th October - and the amount came out soon after from the bank account so I imagine the searches happened around the 10th. And when I called for an update last Friday (20th October), the drainage and environmental searches were back and ok. We are now only waiting for the local authority search, which we hope will come back this week.
The reason why we instructed the solicitor to do the search while we are in the process of applying for our mortgage is because our financial advisor was confident we would definitely get an offer. I know some people prefer to get their mortgage offer first, so the search fees are not incurred till after the mortgage offer is approved. When we asked, they told us that 10-14 working days is a normal wait for searches to come back... I will update you if we get the last search back! Goodnite! :T

My OH and I looked at loads of houses but due to having rotating days off, we could never see a house shortly after it hit the market.
My OH took her mum to look at one and said it was fantastic so I went along that evening, peering in the windows and wiggling my fingers through the letterbox:D
I said, let's put an offer in so we did and it was accepted just 2 days after going on the market. We had already accepted an offer on ours.
We applied for a mortgage and got accepted, had survey done and are on our way to solicitor tomorrow to hand over money for searches.
I guess we know have to just sit back and wait for the results:rolleyes:0 -
FINALLY got our mortgage offer yesterday .... tho it isnt showing on the internet that the solicitor has recieved it.... looks like i might have to call them soon.0
