Managed to get to millets & the new place in wellgat not managed to get as far as tiso & blacks yet, so will try there thankyou. Might even try the few places down at gallagher retail park if I can get there sometime. She had some thicker socks today & it seems to have helped. But thank's for the advice, will have a look for welly socks too.Booo!!!0

Violetta, it's all about trapping heat between the layers, so maybe size 2 wellies worn with an ordinary pair of socks, then a fluffy pair, then another pair to take up the extra space. A pair of insoles in them will help keep the cold out the soles too. Who knows, the size 2s might fit her next year when she doesn't need the extra socks. How moneysaving
Are they wearing their slippers in class? Maybe a pair of Ugg type slippers would help keep her feet warmer in class, so they'd be warmer to begin with when it gets to going home time. Or, since it's MSE, a pair of ordinary slippers worn with socks and leg warmers hidden under her trousers ( Poundland were doing them for the usual price)
I gave my DD a flask of hot chocolate to take to school this morning, thankfully her school hasn't banned warm drinks yet. I make it with plenty of milk so it's not too hot by the time she opens it. It was minus 10.5 this morning.
DH was out chipping away at our path at half seven this morning, luckily most of our neighbours tend to be up at that time anyway, the sound of a metal spade hitting solid ice was enough to wake the dead!
My hubby is form the West Coast and calls this weather " baw-chankin' " always thought that was a funny way of saying Brass Monkeyd.
Sorry things aren't so good in your neck of the woods, it does get wearing doesn't it, getting 43 layers of clothes on just to take out the rubbish.
I saw the little tractors clearing a side street on my way to work this morning -I just checked on Google maps, they would have cleared the way for 14 houses (because it's a dead end street). I don't know how they prioritise the streets round here.
Roll on the thaw - remember to clear a space over any drains in the ground to let the water away freely, if any of you have them in the garden.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Thank's ailuro- they finally gritted by the school today, just wish they had done it before they had opened the schools. They aren't wearing slippers in class as far as I know, poor thing when I picked her up yesterday I looked through the classroom window & she was all in grey apart from these mad pink spotty sock's on top of her tights that I'd told her to take off when she took off her wellys & changed into her school shoes & obviously thought better of it & decided to keep them on. Hubby is convinced it's going to be a long hard winter so I'd got it into my head that she need's snow boots, and I'm terrible when I get one of these ideas stuck in my head. Think we may need to get bigger wellys anyway & a few pairs of thicker sock's for her.Booo!!!0

Was up in the Cleppy Road area today for DD's piano exam, everything was passable, in some places it was with care...it's the first time since it's snowed I've been any further west than Sainsbury's.
the car dashboard made it into figures above zero degrees... it's now a balmy 40 Fahrenheit... that's about 4 and a half degrees Celcius!:jMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Lidl & Aldi usually have kids snowboots in a couple of times in winter- maybe in time for the next big freeze!
I discovered that my dozy 7 year old son was out playing last week with bare feet inside his wellies.
He has lots of thick socks, but not the sense to use them...0 -
Just a warning guys... was sitting in my house after I got in from work today - hadn't been home for much longer than 5 mins when I heard an almighty rumble from above. Look out of the window to see a massive pile of snow sitting on our (cleared) front path, it had fallen from the roof  felt very lucky to have missed that!
It might sound daft but please watch out for mini avalanches as the snow thaws a bit this weekend. I work in a shop and last Xmas we had an incident where a massive chunk of compacted ice fell off the roof and narrowly missed someone coming in the door. Scary stuff!0 -
I agree with Stargirl, remember to look up when approaching anything with a roof.;)
Hope your guttering is OK , Stargirl.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Managed to get some snowboots in tresspass this afternoon, she just kept them on, then avoided all the snow & ice on the way home so she didn't get them dirty, earlier on we had to keep dragging her out of banks of snow!
The pavements are terrible we had a giggle watching a seagull sliding about & falling over in city square, he was fine dd was worried he'd hurt his bum,
Seen quite a few guttering & pipes that have fallen down too that could be nasty too if it caught you, so do take care.Booo!!!0 -
Violetta - he doesn't seem to feel the cold, whereas I turn blue at the very thought!
Talking of Trespass, I was in St Andrews on Saturday and they had some great hats in the sale:

It doesn't show up online, but they were 3 for 2 and half price, so it's worth checking in store.
(they may seem a bit dear, but they stand out - I've never had to reclaim them from the lost property skip *shudder *)0
