I also had two of those mag coupons (from a Boots mailing), managed to use one in Tesco last week.

I've been shopping practically every other day in Tesco recently, which is unusual for me, and have now worked out which SA is my best bet for coupon use. One of them always says I can give her what I like, when I timidly asked if I can give her some coupons!!! She seems to have the opinion that if the till accepts them it's okay.....I just hope she still thinks that way!!!
Good for you!! I had an SA like this, but then a couple of weeks ago it all went wrong and she said she had to get supervisor/manager approval for everything, and had me waiting in the queue for what seemed like ages. It was AWFUL.

Then, on saturday, an SA accepted 3 coupons no problems (although I purchased all products) Point is, she didn't think twice, just scanned them!

2x£1.00 pampers active fit (on deal anyway, at 2 for £10!)
    50p Alpro soya

Think she is weekend staff though. But like you, I will get an idea of who is best to use.

Is this for coupons for products not bought, or any coupons?

for things not bought i think. as far as i know they will always take the nappy coupons if you have actually bought nappies.

i've been using the self scan, it always asks an assistant to come and check the coupons, and she tells me off for using more than one (for things i have not bought).

  • Having read the previous posts, it's probably not a good idea but, can somebody tell me if Tesco accept (or previously accepted) coupons issued from Asda and Somerfield, ie, from their magazines?

    Cheers

Let's just say 'they scan'. As to whether a particular store will accept them - refer to the 999,987 posts on the subject here;)

Tesco Kidsgrove was on about this last week and wouldnt take any vouchers at all unless the item was purchased. Went to Trentvale and had a great time with vouchers and coupons but I think it is all coming to an end.

Tesco will lose a lot of customers, those that dont rely on points, as their prices are creeping up and surely most of us only go there to spend our internet vouchers anyway.

I think you are definately right. At the beginning of the year I said to wife that we would start shopping around. Being a customer of Tescos for about 20 years I didn't feel valued - for spending approx 6k a year (large family). We looked at prices of similar products in Iceland, Netto and a few local stores and we believed we could save about 20% or more a year. Then I stumbled on this site and all the coupons/points etc. I already have over £1000 towards our holiday next summer and the coupons were a fantastic bonus too. HOWEVER - this is what keeps up at Tesco's. I have no loyalty towards them anymore. See what happens by Xmas if I no longer feel I am getting a good deal I will buy from them when it suits and my 6k will be shared around. Be warned Mr T I am not alone!!!

To be honest I hate shopping in Tesco, if it wasn't for the points and coupon use I wouldn't choose to shop there. I much prefer Sainsbury's although a bit pricey, so it'll have to be Lidl from now on if coupons are off the menu at Mr. Ts

Well, Tesco Wigston wouldn't take any coupons for items not bought, but whether that was affected by the fact I had almost £10 worth of coupons for items I had bought, on a total bill of about £60, I don't know. (BTW, I hadn't asked them to take extras as in the light of this thread, I hadn't wanted to push my luck, but I'd accidentally given her one too many of the nappy coupons I mentioned the other day)

On the plus side, some of the coupons they did take included internet ones, some of which wouldn't scan and had to be keyed in.

  • No problems with coupons being accepted today. Bought £30 worth of kids clothing plus some wine for the points, I used £4 off £20 spend, £5 off £25 spend and £6 off £30 spend on clothes plus £2.75 worth of other coupons. I was worried about using all the clothing coupons together as you're not suppose to, I didn't want to push my luck but could have handed over more.

    It's all hit and miss.
