I missed that eh - goldfinches got me going ah, didn't see the red kites are awesome - I've only seen one once - major bird action!!!!
And speaking of birds (leads me nicely to my freezer) - went and got a pile of food out of the freezer for making grub over weekend - which will keep us nicely fed
Fingers crossed for OH.
In bed, slightly dejected at lack of work progress - will read book switch off head and soldier on tomorrow (need to be in for monday)onwards!

All this wellie talk has made me realise I've 'wellie-napped' counted up the wellies as I fell over them at the door - my and dd shared wellies x 2, OH or any other random man visiting the house wellies, ds wellies, my wellie shoes and an extra foriegn pair with a funny accent........................
Aunty C is minus a pair of size fours - black - and currently being held hostage in a foriegn land (oh dear that was a bit of a mistake) I'll have to confess and extradite them asap!Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Vl - I looked at stevenage - omg HOW far are you from the beach??????
We all need Wellies, even if only for wandering around the garden :j Mine have spots
Mum & dad were both Scots, Dad was in the RAF and they travelled about fair bit. You usually get to choose your final posting and they thought they were being reasonable by saying anywhere in Scotland. Dad came home and said he had the details, guess where. Mum went through them all Lossie, Leuchers, Kinloss etc and he kept saying no. She gave in and said well tell me then - RAF Wyton, on the edge of East Anglia. Mum was gutted - no hills, no water anywhere near. She would have loved to get back to Scotland but with a squad of kids spanning 17 years one of us was always at the wrong point in education to move, by the time we were all through education the eldest were firmly settled & she couldn't bear to leave them.
We always made sure she got home as often as possible -we had to stop an inch over the border so she could smell proper air :rotfl: When she died some of her ashes were brought back to Loch Long.
Sorry for the off topic ramble  Just hearing someone mention not being anywhere near the water always brings this memory back!
We had a little robin hopping around the car park at work today to bring a smile to my face
Fingers crossed for Mr Stripes being on the ferry tomorrow:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -

I saw my 1st one about 6 years ago - there is a nesting site about 5 miles away. Then again after about a year. Then after 6 months. Etc etc. Now, when the weather is decent & I'm out & about I expect to see one. OH sees them every Saturday when he's playing golf (only birdies he sees :rotfl:) and I see them above the house sometimes. They are magnificent. In Spain we get hoopoes which are gorgeous. But my fave birds are sparrows. Groovy little things, love the way they bounce about :j, and in Spain they are very tame and sit on the back of your chairs waiting to pounce on crumbs. Am off to Gambia shortly, last year there was a lovely little egret which followed the gardener round, hope it's there again
.
PS I have just reached the end of my bird knowledge. Apart from magpies. I know them.
Hope Mr Stripes has a trip at all, and also that it is goodA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Morning
Well thats a lot of birdie talk isnt it?
I guess its maybe like we were when we lived off the west coast we had coughs, corncrakes and a pair of eagles out the back of the garden on the cliffs - you get you to your daily bird dose don't you! Not nearly as exciting as red kites. In North Uist we had corncrakes in the garden to much jealousy of a lot of folks south!!
Loving the sound of all these adventures we're all having and have had!! I saw Egrets in belize I think and a toucan (!)
Mr s on his way, bad snow at the north, we'll see there's a boat later, arriving safe rather than not is more important.
Chickens tidied out and all cleaned out (phew - did the whole shed) - 5 eggs so far
Cleared out garage for impending local waste group picking up 2/4 of the contents - yippee I might even get the car back in there - also collected up the dry straw and bagged it up - got 5 bags which is better than I thought - means roughly 5 weeks of bedding for the chookiewookies which is more than I thought I had.
DD salopets up and drying, dad phoned to say he'd give a bit of money for her spends - peedie asleep, ds asleep and dd in living room pottering away - a very sleepy happy house at the moment - I'm off to do a few hours before all the chaos later.
Maty - nice to meet a fellow forces child - my dad was in Army - we only got back to scotland when I was 12 - sorry to hear about your mum though (()) nice that she's got some 'fresh air' now. xxxxTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

That sounds a nice morning, Pippi - and fancy having a local pair of eagles in a previous place! The only place I've seen eagles is the NASA facility in Florida - they nest in the trees along the entrance road. Just by the alligators  truly :rotfl:
Here yesterday, gulls, magpies, sparrows, a thrush, starlings, pigeons, sparrows, ducks, and I *do* have a robin but didn't see him yesterday, I hope he made it through the last of the snow
And this lunchtime, I'll be seeing two guinea pigs2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
KC enjoy your time with two piggies and Wol, i'll go out and visit my piggies when i've finally gotten dressed.0

Wow, red kites - you all need to go to my parents' part of Oxfordshire, they're 10 a penny up there. It's quite funny watching the crows gang up to see one off when they're all after the same bit of prey!! They are such beautiful birds and one of the very few I recognise.0

We have a lot of red kites around here, since the re-introduction a few years ago they have really taken off (no pun intended) and I often see one, sometimes swooping over really low. They are magnificent in flight. Not quite so on the ground though - once in the Chilterns I saw a whole group of them just standing around iin a field which was really odd.
Most exciting birds I've seen in the garden are a tiny goldcrest last year (when it accidentally bumped its head on next door's greenhouse roof) and a black-cap when the weather was really cold. I love the idea of corncrakes in the garden. I was in North Uist a few years ago and heard them there, really weird (standing on the beach at almost midnight in the daylight with a glass of wine listening to the birds, wonderful!)
I lived in Minnesota too and what best brings back of the feeling of the wild north woods is the sound of Loons (known as Northern Divers in the UK)0 -
Oh dear you are all making me feel a little guilty as I have just been pulled up short when I have realised that I have started to take Red Kites for granted. There are lots here. There is a nature park not far away where they feed them every day at 3. I often sit watching them out of my study window as I am working. As I type there are crows chasing one just above my garden.
I did once see a bald eagle at Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. That was a sight to remember. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Guess what I've got
