  • Oh reckons I should write to them and complain - dunno if it will do much good - I can't really even meet them half way - the extra contract money was just about 900 - x

Thank you for not thinking I'm a numpty - I feel very daft.

I'm doing what I do best in a crisis - tidying up.

Instead of an offer of 872 to clear the account they now want 1308 which I just can't manage - I burst into tears I was so frustrated - I feel so utterly stupid. Didn't get the extra work money until late November and decided to pay off current cc balance and then use that to do the f&f until I got paid etc - to make sure we'd be OK.
    (sorry for the rant)

Why do YOU feel stupid when THEY have messed up, and were very rude, just to make things worse? ((Hugs)) it is a big blow, due to the savings you would have made. However, you WILL get there (heaven knows, I did). It feels like two steps forward, and one step back - I remember it well. However, you will now need to replan, and reprioritise what you are going to do with the money. Pay something else off - this shower will just have to wait !

Right, first things first. YOU are not an idiot. You did everything right. You checked, double checked and made sure that all the small print was covered. You could not have been expected to do that in the timeframe of 2 weeks. The Bank are the ones that have messed up. It might be worth trying a letter to them to their complaints dept. They have 3 step complaints and will usually stick to their guns on the first one. Depending on how determined you are you could go right to the top with the complaint. Also is it worth just a quick call to the ombudsman to find out what the rules are regarding having offered it to you and then backtracking. I fear that they can (and do) do whatever they please. These rude people that work in call centres with their headsets saying computer says no have a lot to answer for. They play with peoples lives like a game of monopoly but one day they will be on the receiving end and lets see how they cope.
Like Dawn says if you cannot get the original full and final offer is it worth paying of penguin chops and then focusing this debt. Try not to focus on what you have "lost" think about how you can get what you need.
Hugs and :) to the candles. Get cosy and give peedie and the littles big hugs. You still have them

I'm so incredibly cross - (not emotional - fuming) you know I had the money getting sorted for the full and final - well I've been trying for over a week to pay it off finally - transferred the money to the right account etc - OK I've dawdled a bit - but I've taken it as being paid, I think I'd even said on here - I'd taken the offer and the debt was (in my mind) gone etc.

Tried to do it online to not see a bit that told me the discounted balance, so decided I'd wait until I could get someone to talk to me. Finally, finally, finally, get to talk to someone today to only find out that that letter which had the 60% discount offer for November and December - was a typo

The discount was only for November [letter arrived mid November - double triple checked the small print - got another person to confirm the discount was for november and december] - very sorry - can't help you - can offer you 40% off not 60% - sorry about the typo - um not got anyone in the office last week - well alot of snow you see - I'll go off and check - um - long silence - um no it was definitely a typo for December and um no you can't have the discount.

Unless it is obvious to yourself (or another party) that it was a gross error, then they are on a very sticky wicket indeed.

Write and complain that they have breached their offer. Their offer constitutes a contract, and ask them what are they going to do to remedy that breach.

How frustrating, Pip! Defos worth a complaint letter. Or you could even call the FO helpline to see if they have a standard response to these sort of things - I've seen similar complaints about pensions and the pensions ombudsman does... http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/contact/index.html#1

Candles and camomile tea is definitely the way forward for tonight. Oh, and about the tidying up in a crisis - you are very welcome here any time you are cross :D
