Pippi, not silly at all. Mr C is the same. Just picked up some work but wont ask for money up front!. I think it is called caring about other people more than yourself as well as ^ which Z links to.

Be kind to yourself. Re the panic attacks have you tried some meditation and also look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself how wonderful you are. Do it every day (several times) and you will eventually start believing it. Big, big hugs.

That would be a good weight loss strategy - I'd be sick if I had to look at me everyday in a mirror!! I'll do it without looking!

I'm very sorry Mr C is the same way. Poor him.

I'm being kind to myself - honest injun - I've been out working in a garden AND getting paid - how amazing is that? Being paid to you favouritest thing on the planet.

    Ace eh?

You can have a big hug and a kiss too :)

    xx

    ((((((Hugs)))))) Pippi

I too suffer like this...I know I know stuff, and am good at various things...but still have little confidence in actually feeling I could do these things for money (and therefore possibly making a living from them)...does that make sense? Perhaps what we need is a good dose of self-confidence.....though not sure where to find it...under a hedge somewhere perhaps???

Rambling a bit too much tonight, sorry!!

Hope you have a good day tomorrow.

(((((pippi)))))))))))) Pah to stupid phds knocking confidence  grrrr, the whole thing makes me so CROSS! I know so many peope (myself included :o) who felt like this during and after PhDs. I've got to do a presentation on Monday, and am feeling so scared about it, and it's just because I've not got that feeling of faith in what I've done - feel like people are going to tear me to pieces like it felt like they did at silly phd conferences :o But trying to remember I'm now a competent professional :D And so are you! :j :j It *will* pass, the further away you get from PhD-ness, I promise. This is the worst bit for feeling like this. You'll get through the other side.

And :j :j to OH being a Rock Star :j :j Mr Daffs off being a rock star too :D If we do hatch a little plan to have a little visit in the summer, we'll bring a guitar! :j

(sorry, I've been dancing, feel a bit giddy! :rotfl:)

Nothing to do with PHD-ness ladies, I know exactly how you are both feeling. I always feel the same when starting off in new jobs. Lose all my confidence. Once you have done something a few times with good results you learn how to appear confident but I always have self doubt. Sometimes much more than others. At the moment I am full of self doubt about lots of things. Just pretending I am a swan. All appears calm to others whilst really I am paddling away beneath the surface. Hence 4.30am posts it is the only time when I can sneak down stairs, give Moo lots of hugs and have a good old worry

Pippi, I feel like that too - but I really like cherisong's remedy. Where mine comes from isn't PhD-ing either, tho I know its been traumatic for you and Cheery both. Mine comes partly from knowing that I've had a couple of wrong turns in the financial road in the last six years or so - the French apartment, and the collapse in income - but also in general upbringing, the same kind of fear that got my phobias going - I beat the phobias, but I can't pretend the fear still isn't there, because it is ...
