that's a swede in our house as well. I'm thinking of growing them on my allotment. I only like them in stews though, if mashed at all they are known as the devils food, along with all veggies which are mashed.

had my final allotment meeting last night as part of the committee yay! and am all raring to go at the allotment this weekend. fingers crossed the weather will stay dry. Just wondering what's the best way to go with the plot, probably losing the plot is the best thing.

    Try frying them...

Or chip them and deep fry them.

Deep frying works for most things. Even mars bars... ;)

I have always been confused about turnips/swedes and you are not helping me!

I am the child of scottish parents, brought up in england. Got sent up the shop for a turnip and the shopkeeper sent me home with the white one. Cue clip round the ear from Mum saying you know turnips are orange. After that I just brought back the opposite to what she asked for!

Hugs Pippi, all this talk of Granny* is bringing a lump to my throat so I have no idea what it is doing to you! Love the no black rule too, I have never worn black anyway as it makes me look awful, navy or dark brown usually does instead. But I think in this instance you have to find a way to incorporate stripes in to your outfit :)

    * My Mum longed to be a Granny and from the minute we found out she was going to be one we all (family, friends, and grandchildren) called her Granny and she loved it, being a Granny was the thing she loved most in the world :D At her funeral the Vicar started off by saying some of you here will know her as Mum, Aunt, Jean or Mrs M but the title she was proudest of was Granny so that is what I am going to call her today. She would have loved that :)

Oooh, my favourite! I have either a haggis or white pudding supper when I am over the border. Either at Valente's in Kirkcaldy, or my sister's chip shop in Wick! Now I am feeling really hungry...I can almost smell the batter......:drool:

Oooh, thing that are better over the border (or can't even get south of the border), lovely topic!

Mutton Pies, Butteries, snowballs, high tea, bread, rolls, ayrshire bacon, sliced sausage, edinburgh rock to name a few.

Lucky you Keiss having a sister with a chippy :j

Keiss - I'm envious of you having a chippy owning sister, might have to make some chips this weekend, or more likely wedges as I'm rubbish with a knife and they're easier!! :)

We get most stuff south of the border as we are a little Scottish enclave, so Scotch pies, tablet, Scotch rolls, pan bread and square sausage galore :). We can also get the Sunday Post, although I refuse to buy it since I found out Francis Gay didn't really exist . Apparently it's just been different journalists over the years ;).

We also get Irish stuff - red lemonade and Taytos anyone? :D
