Hi Pippi,
sorry to hear you're under the weather & also that I've not been in for while, my subscription seems to have disappeared so I'll reinstate it.
Your post about loneliness really chimed with me too. I've had bouts of it over the last few years. Within one year my 3 closest friends all moved away; South Africa, Scotland & Cornwall ( wonder if it was something I said). I still keep in touch with the one in Scotland, we email & chat but it's not the same as having someone close to pop round & share wine/coffee & a chat with.
For 8 years I worked at home & saw no one during the day other than family or women at the school, none of whom I had much in common with other than children. They were all mortgaged & married with 2.4 & I'm a bit non conformist in these matters.
I think were it not for my starting the new work job 15 month ago I would probably have gone totally bonkers. I have a couple of friends I see fairly regularly but family & finance situtations are very different from mine & of course we all work so just meeting up for a coffee requires a lot of scheduling.
MSE means a lot more than just sorting out finances to me as well & I think that probably goes for most people who post on all the boards regularly, whether they admit it or not.
Enough navel gazing, I'm off to resubscribe.
Wishing you better soon

Chev, I'm sorry its so bad for you over there - you're *so* far away from us,
Lula - I think you've hit the nail on the head with this "MSE means a lot more than just sorting out finances to me as well & I think that probably goes for most people who post on all the boards regularly, whether they admit it or not." Certainly goes for me - and thats true way before my move to a new town, I'm sort of shy, but I also choose to spend lots of time alone...2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks for all of the comiserations (sp). There are benefits of living here eg we have just been to surf life saving this morning. I have stood in the water and helped young boys through the water on boards and then done a bit of swimming afterwards with ds1.
Sport in general is much cheaper than in the UK for kids. And generally the climate is better (though the house we are in has absolutely crap windows so it is as cold inside as a uk house, so can feel pretty miserable).
But I am beginning to quietly feel that if we don't get a better house soon, or me get a job, then maybe this isn't for us long term. But of course I can't say that out loud as OH will be so disappointed......we shall see.
Cheri OK MOO is officially cute. I especially liked the pictures of the 3 great danes playing together on your blog. We unfortunately can't have pets where we are renting. One of the reasons for actively looking for another place.
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Hey Chev,
hope things improve for you soon, not enjoying your home can really drag you down. It's funny to think of you having summer hols over there while we're just about heading towards spring.
Chin up, you never know what fab opportunity might be about to come your way

Hugs to both Pippi & Chev - the comments about being shy and people not believing it really connect with me - difficult, isn't it.

Good morning! Feeling quite chirpy today after a day of 'mouse bites' yesterday - was pleasantly surprised how much I got done. Today got off to a good start by drinking coffee and knitting while catching up on here :j
I can really identify with the online friendship too, we all come on here and chat about stuff that we maybe wouldn't mention to others, and it's well beyond the money-saving issue by now. Once I thought people who spend a lot of time online were a bit weird... now I do it every day!
Making friends is difficult, and I think it gets harder as you get older because most people are quite settled with their lives and they assume you are too. Often you just have to get out there and keep trying, all the usual things like evening classes, sports clubs, other activities - at least that way you do things you enjoy and may meet like-minded people. We moved house 3 years ago and don't have real friends here yet, although many people are pleasant and say hello and sometimes have a little chat. Luckily we are still close to a few long-term friends so still see them now and again, but I do miss regular chats.
Well I hope you all have a cheerful stripey day and Pippi I hope you feel better soon and get things out of the way!0 -
Hope you are feeling better today.
