    I agree it would
    • increase the value and sale potential when ready to sell (people like the idea of not having to do essential jobs like windows)
    • reduce the risk of you becoming ill due to drafts/damp etc
    • increase your comfort
    • stop you worrying
    • Martin says some debt is good debt. Will your flat still have equity in it when you sell? If so could some of that pay for the windows. ie. when you sell you set in your mind that x amount of equity is to pay off the windows

Whilst it wasnt metal I did replace old wooden windows in my terraced house for upvc double glazing. My heating bills did reduce and my house was so warm I had to keep opening the windows. Oh and there was the facility to have them locked on a latch so air could circulate all the time in the summer.

I wonder if anyone else has personal experience of just how much difference going from (approx 30yr old) metal framed double glazing to new UPVC glazing.

Do you get condensation on the frame of the current double glazing?

  • Ok whilst you've all been busy I've changed my phone package - down by £10 a month to £25 (which I'll use) and I've £100 no-upgrade credit - which means my phone is free for the next four months - all help with the budget - thought in the current circumstances if I could reduce the monthly cost (down by £10) and also get a credit that would help the most at the moment.

Huzzah - £25 'extra' (well kind of) a month money into the pot for 4 months :)

Hi LT, I've got experience of going from 1903 original wooden windows that stuck in most weathers and let a lot of breeze through to new UPVC glazing (thankfully still in a nice sash style, as close to the original as I could get) and I'm soooooo glad I did, they open and close properly and keep the place a lot warmer than before.

Luckily I've paid for some and my parents have helped with other bits, but it will increase the value of your flat and also make it nicer for you whilst you're there :)

In terms of disruption, the company I used are very quick, quiet, tidy and friendly, it's very quick to have windows taken out and replaced. If you have a recommendation, try them.....
  • Off to cook some tea and to make some HM sausages (pork and sage) incase the kids are off tomorrow.

They are stockingless KC - I just make either little patties or I make sausage shapes and cos its 100% meat they just stay together nicely (not that you want to know that being veggie)

Chickens just arrived (free from neighbour)- in the dark, in their houses - put them the shed - hope they all like each other

I should think the chickens are well aware that they better behave, or they'll be out in that snow :)

And don't worry about the meat-eatery thing - after all, I'm surrounded with it, and I did ask, y'know!
