Am I being unreasonable?

It looks as if the OP was on here earlier but hasn't posted....0

No, I'm being serious. The only reason I can see for keeping separate accounts in a life time relationship is for tax reasons.
Thanks for clarifying. However in my experience, as lovely as the idea of a 'lifetime relationship' is, it's not always a reality. I've been left feeling like I've lost everything before, even more so when my ex cleared out our joint account and left me responsible for the overdraft. Each to their own, but I think there are too many issues for the op her and your advice of pooling all money is rather irresponsible.heretolearn wrote: »Imp's advice to have a joint account is not good in this situation.
While I agree that it's a nice idea to just pool everything, it takes a lot of trust, and for both people to deserve that trust. Otherwise you can end up in a much worse situation if someone isn't good with money or is selfish (as this husband clearly is). It's too much risk - she could see her money disappearing into his pocket as well!
:T What I was trying to say!
OP, perhaps if your OH is willing to go halves on all the bills (afterall, I don't see why you should pay for nearly everything especially when the children aren't yours) then a joint account that you both pay agreed amounts into and all bills come out of could be a good idea. That said, only consider that if you trust him not to use the money when he fancies, and I certainly wouldn't put all my money into a joint account regardless of whether I intended my relationship to last a lifetime.0
