I like the young blond ozzy guy, can't for the life of me remember his name. Usually cooks for his family and actually eats the food with them.

  • Being more into OS than often I would think, I am a bit of a tog aswell.

I have so many cookery books, I frequently go to Hay on Wye to pass some on. I have my old favourites, and although not actually an individual chef Good Housekeeping is always one I plump for when in need of assistance, I now have three different volumes.
Best cookery show has to be the Victorian Kitchen, we really used to waste nothing, so why are we so poor at it now?

Last but not least its Delia, and her recipe for basic white sauce, it is so simple its pure genius.

Most chefs ponse around trying to reinvent the wheel, I am not into that, I like a chef that is prepared to try and change something for the right reasons. Jamie Oliver in future may turn out to be the most remembered chef due to his restructuring of our school canteens. I hope so, not because I am that keen on him but because what he is doing is for the benefit of all our children.
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

I like jamie oliver always simple enough recipes that tast yummy.
I have to admit, although delia has some good recipes, I don't get on with them very often so she is on my least favourite list (please don't shun me:D )

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall. Just about to read his new book Hugh Fearlessly Eats It all which I got for my birthday. The earlier series of River Cottage are right up there amongst my favourites and he really got me interested in trying free wild foods.

I like bits and pieces from different chefs. I've never tried a Delia recipe (does this make me strange?). Jamie has some good savoury dishes - we LOVE his chilli con carne, but I've never tried any of his puddings. Gordon has some good recipes in his Makes it Easy book, as does Gary Rhodes. I'd love to be able to do more things with my Rick Stein book, but it's a case of time and having enough people to cook for.

For puddings and "fat" treats, Nigella is the true domestic goddess! I'd love to have more of an excuse to cook things from her books.

  • Best/most attractive thing for me is enthusiasm in the kitchen (etc) - and for a different perspective, Heston Blumenthal!:D

Not for his recipes, obviously..........but I do love his innovative ideas - and have a weird desire to try his taster menu at the Fat Duck (Never gonna happen- c£100 per head.....)

    Like it................love it!!:j

  • another Nigel fan here, his double ginger cake is fab! 'Toast' made me laugh so much too, he's a good natural writer (love his articles for Sainsbury's mag!)...strangely off putting on TV though?!??....don't particularly like TV 'chefs' though esp AWT (poisonous little man, so RUDE to his guests!)...love Floyd though (anyone see Sat kitchen this morning with the mad French lady giving him a right ear bashing?!:rotfl: )
...also the woman who wrote Chocolat has two books French Kitchen & French Market...good honest French country cooking, turns out exactly like the pics even if you add & remove bits (unfortuantely her name esacpes me just now:rolleyes: )...Hairy Bilers are a laugh, loved the Mexican chicken mole with about 50 types of chillies they did:eek: !!!....can't stand Delia (SORRY!), she's just too school teacher ish- the sort that would smack your wrist if your measurements weren't exact enough!...Jamie, Nigella, Gordon & the rest are too aware of the cameras & their celeb image to really be passionate ...guess i'd rather be reading than watching them on TV then!!

EDIT....Sorry that should obviously have read Hairy Bikers....bizarre typo there....
