Another vote here for the marvellous Nigel Slater! I have all his books, including 'Toast'. I just love his style of writing and his pragmatic approach to food.
I absolutely can't stand that smarmy Gary Rhodes, he makes my flesh creep :eek:Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
I have always liked Nigel (no, not in that way!) and of course Nigella (yes in that way!!!!).
Recently read Nigels autobiography "Toast", very good read if a bit strange in bits.Humans only use around forty percent of their brains capacity. Imagine what we could achieve if we used the other seventy percent!0 -
I thought I was the only one who disliked Delia! I think a lot of her recipes end in a messy mush when you watch her cook on tv! I do think, however, she has a lot of failsafe recipes for when you're not sure what to do and I use her yorkshire pudding recipe.
I don't particularly like Gary Rhodes but I like to watch Jamie Oliver put things together and I think Nigella is great to watch too. She makes any food look really delicious! The cookbooks I use the most are the ones with a mixture of recipes that aren't by any particular chef (Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook).0 -
James MartinI used to love Farmhouse Kitchen and also Highdays and Holidays!! I have many favourite cookbooks and the ones I use most often are one called the Saturday Evening Post All American Cookbook, which I bought for 50p in 1983, Rose Elliot's Not Just a Load of Old Lentils, Caudia Roden's Jewish Food (this is really a book which I read for interest - it is fascintating, I got it in Books for Cooks in London a few years ago - I was served by Clarissa Dixon Wright who said it was the best book on Jewish Food and it is!! I do quite like to watch Delia on TV as I find her very relaxing, but I don't make too many of her recipes and I think Nigel Slater could make any food sound yummy - I love to watch him!!Jane
ENDIS. Employed, no disposable income or savings!0 -
Not so much as a mention.
My personal favourites were the Two Fat Ladies, the late Jennifer Paterson, and Clarissa Dickson Wright. Now those ladies knew how to cook properly. Take some meat, add some more meat and garnish with a little extra meat. Serve with side dish of meat.
I like Ken Hom too, and Rick Stein coz I like fish.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Of course since visiting the OS board mrbadexample and Queenie are now my favourites!Punky x0

still upset about Nigel-i had my eye on him as a potential Mr Loubee!
Bless you for that. Sorry about Nigel, allow me to assure you that I'm sure he'll make a nice man very happy.:D :rotfl:
I don't know if you saw a programme with Nigel Slater on I think Saturday mornings a few weeks back. He was chatting to Alan Bennett (National Treasure TM) and it was most peculiar! They were like father and son. Quite similar, restrained and modest personalities.
And very, very gay!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:gingin wrote:I'm not going to forget you in a hurry then Dronid
How much of a resemblance do you bear?
  I hope very little I am about half Matt Lucas' size and a bit taller too. And with hair, brown hair and little propensity for rubber clothes - in polite company of course!
And I am rarely in a state of perpetual protest!

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
Wow what a lot of cooks there are out there!!
I like several cooks but don't like all their stuff
Delia has a few great recipes eg her Christmas pud is fantastic. Nigella is scrummy except if you are on a diet, Jamie has some great ideas, Ainsley is fab for those quick and easy 'meals in minutes' type dishes but I have to say we love Nigel Slater in this house too!! (Didn't know he was gay but makes me like him more!!)0
