I am another Nigel Slater fan for comfort food.

I also like Donna Hay, she used to write for Marie Claire and has done a fair few cookbooks with really simple, tasty and healthy food.

When I left home my mum wrote for me a recipe book with all of her special recipes and that is the book I use most, in fact I don't really use the book any more as I know them all by heart!

I cant be doing with delia. She always uses some ridiculous ingerdient you have to specially go out and hunt down. My mate bought me a delias cake book for my Xmas last year, and Im shamed to say Ive never made a thing from it. A quick flick now through shows recipes using angelica, lard, cider vinegar, pure almond essence , preserved stem ginger syrup. I pride myself on having a diverse stporecupbaord but I get the feeling that delia just wants to show off :p

No ones mentioned Rose Elliot. I love her books, and even though Im not a vegetarian, theres some cracking stuff in her books. Take 5, is a brilliant little book with LOADS of great, easy and super tasty ways of getting 5 a day in - the red onion marmalade is to die for! GO ROSE

If I cook im a jamie style cook, but I love watching hugh & gordon ramsey, you get the feeling they really love food, the marbling of the fats and what-not.

That beardy guy I cannot stand, whassisname the one who looks like the strangers you were told to avoid at school?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

For reference of how to do boring plain and simple stuff I use Delia Smith. For Jewish recipes like my mum makes I use Evelyn Rose.

If I am having people round or even midweek, I'll read my Nigel Slater, Nigella Lawson and Claudia Roden for inspiration. I do want to get the new Giorgio Locatelli (sp?) book as well as the Silver Spoon.

I don't really like Ainsley, James Martin and the majority of them that are on programmes like Ready Steady Cook.

He was the first TV chef that I ever watched, he always had something dribbling down his chin, is anyone else old enough to remember YTV's Farmhouse Kitchen with Dorothy Sleightholme? the name isn't as catchy as some today......I'm feeling my age at the moment :o

The Galloping Gourmet was brilliant (a short slurp) and I used to love Farmhouse Kitchen, so cosy.

I forgot to put my least favourite, it has to be Ainsley I'm afraid he justs bugs the t*ts off me!! Enjoy watching Gordon but find all that copious swearing very repellent.

Farmhouse kitchen, my gosh had forgotten about that! Use to watch it when I wsa knee high to a grasshopper.

As for favs, I love the way Jamie is so passionate about what he does. I do have The Dinner Ladies 2 books (Jeannette something) and I like them. All the recipies I have tried from there have gone down well. Think I need to start cooking different thing rather than the same recipies.

May head of to the library so some inspiration.

    Nigel Slater
I find Nigella's very good for cakes and bread - not as dictatorial as Delia, and she's reassuringly greedy. I like Nigel Slater too, he's very enthusiastic about food, and his recipes are very flexible, if you want to change things about a bit. I'm not a big fan of Jamie - his writing style's just too 'matey' and fake. I also like the Moro cookbooks - Sam & Sam Clarke - inspiring, even if I never cook anything from them!

I remember Farmhouse Kitchen, I think most of the cooks on there were WI members around the yorkshire area. That must be 30 years ago  (God I'm old)

Mary Berry for baking and of course the trusty Bero book.

But I think I have to say James Martin is my fave.:D I have met him a couple of times (he's even more gorgeous in the flesh) and he has sampled my Chocolate Beetroot cake, he said it was very moist and chocolatey:A

My least favourite is Jamie Oliver
