Stray Cat! Had enough now.

Hi guys & girls,

I have a problem with what i believe to be a stray cat.

We have had the problem a while now, At first it was just a case of this stray cat coming into my home of a night, Eating the left over cat food.

(We didn't know this was happening until my OH woke up to a strange noise!)

But its getting more serious now, 2 vet visits has been needed.
This cat is a bully, Our neighbours cats have been attacked, Now it seems mine is the next target.

This morning, All 5 of mine, Had their breakfast, Then went for a wonder, They never go far, Mainly the back of our garden or in the allyway!

Today, This stray cat was lying in our recycling box which is under our kitchen window. All the girls went with no problem, However, Our youngest - Just got to the top on the window when this stray just attacked him, Right in front of me!

I tried everything to get to 2 cats apart, However, This seemed to make things worse! Long story short - Mine is now left with injuries!

However - This happened before, With another one of mine leaving her with patches of hair missing & a open wound on her ear.

Its getting beyond a joke now, Last vet appointment cost me over £55 + Medication on top.. Now im looking at the same again if not more!

Is there anything i can do about it? Surly there must be something. My cats are all becoming fearful of going out or even eating now! Please help! xxx

Keep a bucket of water handy if it happens again. I know your cat will get wet, but it will stop the fighting!

It's probably a tom cat who's claimed territory in your garden. Would a local cat rescue place take him for you, neuter and re-home him?
  • My Sister has recently had the same problem, but the cat in question broke her cat flap to get in and eat then attack her cat! Has been ongoing for a while, numerous vet bills. Cat's protection came out with a trap, and end result, the cat was taken away, scanned to see if it belonged to anyone, (not chipped) So they have neutered it and it will be rehomed now. Get onto them, my Sister now has a traumatised cat who wont go outside anymore and had £100's in vet bills because of injuries.

MONEY makes the world go round.

  • Thank you everyone! Sorry for taking ages!

I have called the RSPCA when it first happened. They just told me to contact the owners...!

However, I'm going to call them again today and find out just where i stand!

I will update once speaking to them!

    thanks again all xx

  • My mum is having the same problem with her cats... however they are starting to stand up for themselves a little more. Although the cat is not a stray it is a beighoburs cat. They have said he has become more wild at late. He has been neutered, but they don't know what else to do. (Such a shame they don't offer my mum any money towards the vet bills)

Basically bully cat has taken over the garden thinking it's their territory.

Whenever i visit I always throw water or a stone at it. (I know this is not really the nicest way...) He never comes round when we're out in the garden.

Good luck with RSPCA! Let us know.
    xx

Please don't throw stones at any cat, nuisance or not. It's downright nasty.

dont bother with RSPCA hun, call Cats Protection RSPCA are about as much use as a chocolate radiator!
  • Hi all,

Thanks for all the speedy replies!

I called the RSPCA yesterday against my better judgment. If Im honest I cant stand their way of working, But, I cant afford continuous vet cost either.

I spoke to someone in their care team. I was told I HAD to provide evidence that I have done everything within my means to find the owner with the cat & report the issues in hope that the owner will give me the funds Ive lost!

Ive explained that the cat has no collar, I have placed leaflets in neighbouring doors & left a message on a well known website, but no one has come forward.

She said that a member of their team will contact me in due course to collect the cat. If no one comes forward within 7 days they will put the cat to sleep as they are already over crowed.

I have called other rescue centres but everywhere seems full to bursting point.

So Im at a lost cause! I dont want the cat to be PTS if its completely healthy But I cant afford the vet treatment!

So Im kind of stuck between a rock & a hard place!

Princessx87, I notice you are in Bristol. Not a million miles away from you in north and west witshire there is a charity call cats action trusthttp://www.catsactiontrust.speedycheetah.com/.

They might be able to offer advice I found them very helpful in the past. It might be they can loan you a trap if you drive to collect it or they might know of a charity like them that covers you area. They might simply be able to direct you somewhere that will help more.

When they helped me I made a £50 donation to their charity though they didn't ask for anything.Much cheaper than continued vet bills and worry.
