You are a bookmaker...? i will give you 100 to 1 that you do not approach these people and make the comments that you have made on here.

This is kind of a void argument though isn't it? If you saw a group of teenagers on a street corner doing something dodgy would you approach them? If you saw a group of 4 big dudes nearly running someone over in a car would you stop them later on? By your logic you shouldn't really call the police over anything, after all approaching them is the best way.

If the OP went up to them and complained their metal wasn't secure what do you really think would happen?

    Gavin.

Ok maybe it was a bit of a crass comment to say approach these people.....However he was the one that called these people who are merely trying to make a few pounds in difficult times scoungers, thieves,he assumed that there vehicle was unfit to be on the road, so on.

what i was trying to point out was that there is good and bad in any profession, there are good scrapmen and there are bad, there are good bookies and there are bad.

I merely saw that he took the wrong approach in his wording, maybe it was me that was being if not a little obtuse.

As far as i could see and maybe im wrong he had no dealings at all with these people, just because they had a little too much scrap on the back of there wagon they were thieving, unlawful, scroungers,if they were overloaded then that is for the police or VOSA to deal with

There has been quite a few people on here that have been helped out by scrap people, they have saved money by not having the local authorities charge them to remove the items.

Im not here to offend anybody,i will put a point across but unfortunately with some people if you do not agree with there original point then they kind of spend the next hour or so berating you for it with claims that your view is beginning to get silly.

  • Can I ask what it wrong with living on a council estate? And why make such an issue about them coming from a council estate?

My grandson is one of those people who collect rubbish and unwanted goods. He doesn't live on a council estate and he has been made redundant and is unable to get another job. perhaps you would prefer him to be on benefits and taking money from your taxes. It's called enterprise and should be encouraged not moaned about. Good luck to those who get off their butt and try to earn their own living.

whilst I applaud him for working, I have to ask if he is one of the scrap men who like to appear at 8am on a Sunday morning, loudspeakers wailing?

We recently had to hire a skip to clear our back garden (previous owners I hasten to add left 2 sheds and various forms of "slabbing".)

We soon realised that one skip wasnt going to be enough. However, on the day we were contemplating getting another skip, a scrappy came along and took 75% of the contents. This continued until the garden was clear! We calculated he probably saved us £200 in skip hire!!

again, no problem with you disagreeing with my comments, but as gavin has pointed out the whole 'don't complain unless you confront them about it yourself' was ridiculous.

you seem to have acknowledged that so we'll leave the matter there. no problem with you disagreeing, all i ask is that you use a rational argument to do so.

Around us they will take anything thats not screwed down [without asking]....but only if it's metal.

They also use it as a cover for looking artound your garden/over your walls etc to come back later and break in/steal something from the yard.

    They are thieving scum.

May be the ones around your area but where I live the scrappy always knocks and asks whether they can take stuff away. They have saved me a lot of money over time
