scrap wagons and the idiots who operate them

don't know about the rest of you but round where i live the number of people who have (forgive me here) crawled off their council estates and bought falling-apart transit pickups to drive around all day scrounging scrap is getting beyond belief!

they're all over the place in these rusting vans with bits of metal fencing tied to the rear up against the cab so they can load more in, spouting drivel into loudspeakers all day long! there's one driving around outside now! can't even understand what he's saying!

every time i'm driving to work i see one of these vans with a couple of idiots in the cab and a procarious, wobbling haul of unsecured metal hanging off the back that they've probably stolen out of some old woman's garden while she was inside watching countdown!

Scrap is valuable. Perhaps they're just trying to make a living.

  • There's loads where I live. Once I passed a pick-up truck which had an old transit van loaded onto the back, I couldn't believe my eyes!! It wasn't secured on at all, no straps, ropes or anything!

You really should calm down and get a life.

Yes, of course they are trying to make an honest living,

Hopefully most of them arent small minded, bigoted and judgemental like some of the folks who will post on this thread..
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

this is what i'm getting at! i can't believe the police aren't driving past as many of these wagons as i am! all the ones i see are driving around with unsecured piles of metal on the back, if we're going to be overrun by these cans then the police should be cracking down on the unsecured loads and the obvious unroadworthiness of the vehicles.

How many times have you taken notice of the reg and actually reported it? At least then
your rant would be directed at someone who could do something about it.

why the change from 'like the OP' to 'some of the folks' then? to make the comment less personal?

    too late unfortunately.

As far as im concerned these people who you so eloquaintly describe are as i agree with some other people trying to make a living.

Our local council will charge you £25.00 to remove three items from your property, and these scrap people will usually take it away for you for free.....or they may charge you a small fee.

If they are not impacting on your life, then let them be.

  • I remember one day we put out two old calor gas heaters for collection by the local council. I work for the council so I took a completed collection form to work along with a cheque and put it in the internal post for the collections department to deal with.

Before a day had passed the calor gas heaters had been collected/stolen by one of these scrap dealers so it didn't cost me a penny. I thought that was a good result (I got my cheque back and destroyed it)

    I didn't complain - they do a good job :T
