    LOL

It wouldn't be very money saving if I invited everyone here :D

You guys have actually inspired me. My OH and I have been engaged for a while, but have never got round to the getitng married bit. Gretna green might be very nice. Invite a few select friends & family. Thanks for the idea....I'll just have to work on saving cash for the day and persuading my partner. I'm sure he'll come round eventually.

We'd been engaged for 10 years before getting married, not one to rush things.....

I forgot to mention rings in my original posting, we spent about £700 on them, to me the important bits are the ones that make the memories.

How about a block booking money savers wedding!?!

Me & my partner have been together for over 9 years and are finally thinking of getting married. I read this thread with much interest and wondered if anyone has got married or been to a wedding at Gretna Green recently.
    Thanks in advance!!

  • we got married in 2004 at gretna green , we had a choice of hotel, outside or one of three rooms, we chose the smallest the blacksmiths cottage, as it was just dh and i, in total, we left to drive up from gatwick on the monday stayed in travel lodges. married wed, and drove back over the week to arrive home sunday night including sight seeing say in blackpool and ballet and shows and shopping. all in all, including stays in travel lodges, petrol, fees for wedding and bits for outfit and days out lol it came to just under £2500. the travel lodge for gretna is only about 5 min drive away from both the blacksmiths. the reason we chose not to go there was people could just stop and see the wedding, it didnt feel very "just us" if that makes sense? we also chose a lovely guy for the photography very friendly. and if you are doing the runaway thing lol, they can even include witnesses for you x i hope you have a lovely day, ours was amazing and most definatly the best way we could have done things x

I did get married in Gretna last year!

We married at the original blacksmiths forge and it was lovely. It is a tourist attraction as it's the place where countless runaway brides have married, but they curtain off the forge for your actual ceremony, so only your invited guests watch that bit. It's very romantic and we enjoyed it. The nicest bit was traditionally the bride and groom place their hands together on the anvil and it's struck to seal the marriage as bonded metal cannot break. As I already had two children and hubby became their step-Dad, we had their hands linked in as well, so we were linked as a family rather than a couple. Didn't know that was going to happen and it was beautiful.
    This is where we married:

The Garden House hotel was lovely. The staff were very friendly and keen to do anything and everything they could to make our day go smoothly. Just little things made it for us, like offering an iron and ironing board without us asking and they rang me in the room to say the groom and other guests had left so it was safe for me to come down to the foyer!

The gardens are fabulous and you'll get some smashing pictures:

It was mid-April when we married, so you'll get more colourful plants and green trees in your pics if you marry later in the year!

Would highly recommend both venues. I loved my wedding day and it was everything I wanted it to be.
Here I go again on my own....

Yes - they were my boys on the pic in the Arms. They're not interested in girls at the moment, but I think that will change soon ;):D
