Now that the thread has been hijacked, is there any chance it can get back to its original purpose...
Or can the childish comments carry on all night? I would suggest gerretl, tr3mor and jmarko start their own thread about saving rats and acting like children....
If you disagree with the OP then fair enough, you've had your say (many times over) but your posts are going against the ethos of the site - helping each other!

It's childish to assume boycotting anything will make them change their minds!
It doesn't matter what I say anyway, apparently I am "henceforth ignored".0 -

You go on making up pathetic, apologistic excuses for them if you want.
I'll be taking what action I can at what level I can. It's all I can do.
I vote we boycott her for invading Iraq!0 -

Just for the record, i'm not boycotting, but I disagree with what you say above.
How is it childish?
If (and its a big if...) everyone in the UK boycotted products from Iceland, Japan etc, are you really telling me that these countries would sit there and say "we don't care, we're going to carry on anyway"?? I doubt it!0 -
Absolutely. I couldn't agree more.
It's absolutely terrible! I have a number of Norwegian friends and none of them would consider eating whale meat. Indeed the bottom has dropped out of the market - thank goodness. It's another government bolstering a dying set of businesses rather than constructively training for other work or investigating other industries.
Sadly though the list goes on.
France - Nuclear testing on the Polynesian islands and a blatant disregad for human rights - thinking particularly of the destruction of the Rainbow Warrior by secret service agents!
Much of the Middle East (Petrol) Human Rights Abuses
Israel – Needless assault on civilians
USA – War need I say more
UK – See USA
TESCO – Supporting the ‘financially strapped’ Dame Shirley Porter who didn’t pay much of her fines for stacking the electoral deck by selling off publicly owned council flats for a pittance.
And the list goes on.
Honestly I think I’m down to foraging in local parks.
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
Well, it's been shown in the past to be a fairly rubbish way of change.
Have Nestle ever taken notice of their boycott?0 -

That is open for debate.... where has it been shown, what examples are you looking at (except for Nestle)?
As for Nestle, the boycott might not have bankrupted them, and it might not have made them change what they were doing, but I sure that they didn't just sit there not worrying about it.....

Thank you M. I acknowledge an intelligent commentator even when they do not agree with my position.
Sadly, as you yourself have observed, the thread has been raided by 'contributors' who do not merit the same acknowledgment and whose only intent was childishly vandalistic.
I shall continue to ignore them, which is the only reponse that such behaviour deserves.0 -
I suspect Nestle don't worry that much - started over 10 years ago, must be getting a bit twitchy if they haven't had a good night's sleep since...0

For the record, I really don't care whether boycotting 'works'.
I think it may well do - but, whatever the case, at least I shall have some personal satisfaction at not knowingly supporting the economy of countries which have decided to allow something which I find objectionable.
Perhaps this message is not getting through: by doing this I am making a personal, moral statement. I do not expect anyone else necessarily to do likewise if they believe either that whaling is justified or that they have a better way of going about raising their concern.
I'm just flagging it up as my position and asking others to at least consider doing the same. I'd like them to think about it. If they decide it's not for them, I can hardly force it upon them.
What I could do without is the ongoing attention of the yah-boo-suck brigade and their gormless, futile attempts at appearing cleverer than they are. Thankfully, they are totally ignorable.0 -

Just to clarify, I do feel VERY strongly about whaling and am strongly against this sickening barbaric act, but I am not boycotting because:
1. I do not feel that I buy enough Japanese / Icelandic / Norwegian produce as it is (maybe if I think about it more, then I would realise I do though....)
2. I believe that I can help to stop this horrible act in other ways, i.e. signing petitions, donating money to GP, hell, I would even jump in an inflatable dinghy and try to disrupt the whaling with little regard for my own safety if I had chance....
I am still completely happy with your choice to boycott or do whatever else you feel you can do, every little helps if it achieves the aim, at least you are doing something.... keep up the good work!!
