Hi LizEstelle,
You should get more replies to your thread on the Green and Ethical board, so I've moved your thread over there.

I buy a product because its the right one at the right price .I don't care where it was made . If I did I wouldn't buy anything .0

I thought that's what you did with your original post - asking people to 'join your cause'.
And as for childish comments - I was merely making suggestions as to what can be boycotted from Norway and Iceland. Norway provides us with gas (making our electric and fuelling our cookers etc), Jarlsberg, seafood, Ski Queen and dry ice. As for Iceland, the only thing I could think of that we get from there was Lazytown - the TV programme.
So at the end of the day you're criticising me for making the very suggestions you asked for in the first place.0 -
BaJi wrote:As regards to the boycott. I would write to the politicians in the government you are concerned with. Politicians generally believe that for every letter that they receive from someone, who is bothered enough to write to them about it, then that letter represents the same view of 100 other people. Write to the companies involved and boycott any products they supply and any companies that they sell products on to. Write to those companies too.
You are doing a good job LizEiz... for raising awareness of it here. Despite the questionable ethics of some on this forum.
This is an interesting post because it fits in exactly with what I've been saying. If you want to attack the people who are actually involved with the whaling by boycotting *them*, that's fine. Write to the companies involved and boycott *them*. But to boycott a whole country is pretty close to tarring a whole race of people with the same brush. Now, there's a word for that and I can't quite remember...

PurpleChair wrote:I was going to post a sarcastic reply but, actually, comparing this to the slave trade and centuries of institutional racism is just that little bit too offensive.
Not just for implying that I'm some kind of morally bankrupt monster, but for trivialising one of the worst moments in mankind's history.
Was that post replying to anyone / any post in particular, or did you get the wrong thread!?!?!

Not every boycott works, I agree, but can you think of a bigger one than Montgomery that didn't work?

And nuking Hiroshima ended the Second World War - so what's your point?
Are you saying that without the bus boycott, the US wouldn't be the egalitarian place it is today?

LizEstelle said she didn't "EXPECT" people to boycott. EXPECTING is very different to ASKING so i'm sorry but your post falls down before it even begins.....
Oh almost forgot, "in the first place" the OP asked who would like to boycott with her, NOT what things she could boycott, so "criticising" you for not answering the original post is valid IMHO!

LizEstelle wrote:Wasn't there a tabloid newspaper boycott on Merseyside which was fairly effective also?
Yes. The paper was called The Sun. So effective was the boycott that it was never heard of again. Aside from the whole 'most profitable paper in history' debacle!

I thinkk you need to go back and read the thread before jumping to conclusions, or making up what you want to see so you can use big words to make you appear clever when in reality, they have nothing to do with what was originally said!
At the time, myself and tr3mor were discussing boycotting and whether it works or not. Tr3mor used the example of Nestle as proof of boycotts that don't work. I used the example of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and how it led to desegregation on buses in America and "is seen as a pivotal point in the whole civil rights story"
There never was any comparison to Whaling and what the hell as Hiroshima got to do with boycotting??? Like I said, I think you need to read whats on the screen and get it clear in your head before replying....
Same applies to PurpleChair if you have the same confusion as jmarko!
Oh and I forgot, you know what they say about sarchasm!!!
