My sympathies, if it's any consolation, I think you did the right thing. There comes a point where it selfish to keep them alive, it's sad to say goodbye to a friend but it sounds like Flint's time had come.Thank you competition posters!

You did the right thing by your boy, of course you did, you ended his pain and suffering. That is the final, most important gift we must give to our beloved pets.
Thinking of you xx
This is exactly what I think. It's the final loving thing you did for him.
It's very hard, I've been there myself a few times most recently this March with my rescue cat Munchie, but you know when it's time and that it's the right thing.
Sadly most animals don't last as long as most humans so if we want the pleasure of their company, we have to face this. I'd rather have the years of fun, love and pleasure my pets have given me and sadness when they go, than never have had animals in my life.
I bet he had a great life with you and you enjoyed each others company over the years.
Thinking of all of you who have lost pets and for those of us who have pets now, make the most of them.0 -
Yes, you did the best possible thing.
He had a great life & you acted quickly as soon as you knew something was wrong. Many take there pets on too long.
It's painful when they've been such a part of our lives.
All the best.0 -
Sadly I lost my old boy in april he was 12,I went to bed and he was fine, when I woke next morning he was laid as if asleep,I shook him but he was stiff,I am still devasted today as I am a OAP and live alone, its like loseing a family member, even though I still have my little staffy/cross.
Had the old boy from 6 weeks old,I want to get another dog to keep staffy/cross company, but feel I cant replace the old boy yet, when I do feel up to it I will get a rescue dog,my heart goes out to you on your sad loss XXX0 -
So sorry to hear of your loss - we lost both our spaniels within 5 weeks of each other earlier this year - one was nearly 16 and the other nearly 9 - awful decision in each case but we made the right one.
It certainly didn't feel like it at the time - we were all devastated. As a responsible dog owner you knew better than anyone when the time was right and you did the best thing.
In a few days when you feel a little less upset, please google and read "Rainbow Bridge" - it will make you feel better.

Sending hugs and sympathy, you are right - the emotion is raw and pure grief.
I've lost relatives and friends over the years but when I had my dear boy pts I cried like I never cried before. I still miss him more than anyone I know who'se time was also up.
xBe happy, it's the greatest wealth

Thankyou all for your replies, as much as it hurts now i know the pain will subside. I have my pics videos and most of all my wonderful memories.
Again thanks all. I'm rather drunk now so off to bed.All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy...

I agree with others that have said it was the right thing to do, and I'm sure once the pain eases, you'll KNOW it was the right thing to do.
My sympathies go out to you, and thinking of you at this difficult time. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
I am so sorry for you loss.
we came very close to losing our 15 year old dog last week.
she had a stroke and was very poorly but she seems to be pulling through.
I hope that when the time comes we can be as brave as yourselves to let her go with dignity and without suffering.
Its this most difficult decision a pet owner can make, but I know if the roles were reversed our loyal companions would not let us suffer.0
