Ha ha, it would have been funny if so.
Your forum sounds cool, wish we had one0 -
I'd go for pushing it across, not riding it. If it is a pedestrian walkway, it is safer, more polite and less likely to make someone tell you to stop.
I used to push my scooter along a footpath about 30m long that meant I knocked about 5 miles off my commute. Used to see lots of people, but no one ever complained. If i'd have ridden it I'm sure someone would have been annoyed, maybe enough to tell the Police.
I'd also not try to find out a definitive answer. All the rules and regs seem a bit woolly, so you can always plead ignorance if pulled up on it. If you ask the authorities and they are not sure, they are likely to just say 'no' as it is the safest option for them.0 -
Thanks boyse7en - it turns out you are totally correct!
The BTP have got back to me within lightning speed after speaking with Network Rail (how awesome is that!) that as long as the bike is pushed with engine off and not in gear it is ok to do so!
The person also stated if i needed any more clarification to speak to NR.
It is really nice to have such a quick response and a helpful one from one of our services.
I feel all warm inside now, and so glad they could confirm or deny :T0 -
It's a tricky one, as the Byelaws are ambiguous in this case. I'd say that obviuously don't ride it across, signage or no signage, but if you're on foot and the engine is switched OFF then you'd probably not be in breach of the Byelaws, regardless of signage present. Bear in mind though, that if something dreadful happened, you could be reported for endangering safety on the railway potentially. Obviously if you cross when the lights are red, then you're Trespassing on the railway, but I'm sure you'd never do that anyway!0

Hi Madam, I'm really pleased that you got a reply from BTP - and so quickly too!
Hope you don't mind, but somebody asked me to post the reply back on the work's forum (I think they were curious), so I shall quote it tomorrow (presuming Phythian hasn't in the meantime)

Thanks Stigy. I have a respect for these places as I am petrified of tripping up just walking over them!
I am going to print the email from the BTP and keep it in my bike. If someone says anything then I will show them it. I know what you mean as it does not seem clear cut enough. But the response I got was pretty solid.
Thank you x0 -

Seriously?
Points are greased all over the country and theres greasers on loads of curves. Probably contaminates the rail more than a vespa leaking some oil or petrol on the rail.0
